Synopsis Housebroken by : Yael Hedaya

In a striking debut, three piercing, powerful novellas that unveil the hazards of love and desire. The men, women, and even animals in this enthralling collection live at the mercy of their hearts. Young and old, on two legs or four, they grope for love and tenderness, knowing that all connection is fraught with danger and all relationship random and evanescent. Yet the heart wants what it wants. The title novella, a wrenching account of the end of love, traces a gentle dog's transformation into a vicious beast as the couple who owns him breaks apart. In "The Happiness Game," the tenuous bonds between husband and wife are undermined by black crows and weak hearts, while "Matti" presents a chorus of voices -- doctors, nurses, jilted wife, dying husband -- that recounts an old man's passion for his lover, a fifteen-year-old Lolita. Wise and deft, tart yet tender, written in supple, beautifully inflected prose, Yael Hedaya's Housebroken navigates the moments of decision, betrayal, longing, and jealousy that torment the souls of wounded lovers.

Synopsis Understanding Biological Psychiatry by : Robert J. Hedaya

Beginning with a tour of the brain, Dr. Hedaya explains how the brain works and how brain function relates to physical symptoms and cognitive and emotional well-being. He explains how biological psychiatrists consider the biology of the individual as an integral part of the whole picture and demonstrates a new way of conceptualizing clinical problems. Understanding Biological Psychiatry provides information in three basic areas: Chapters 1 and 2 outline basic scientific foundations and core concepts in biological psychiatry; chapters 3 and 4 review biological theories and medical mimics of the major psychiatric disorders; chapters 5 and 6 discuss medication and practical issues, including the basics of psychotropic medications and their role in the biopsychosocial approach. At the heart of this book is the author's proposal for a working alliance between therapists and psychiatrists - an important goal in today's growing managed care environment. The book has a practical bent, discussing, for example, when and how to refer to a psychiatrist, even describing how to explain this new perspective to a patient. The author's conversational style, as well as many figures, tables, and case illustrations, makes Understanding Biological Psychiatry a guide that is sure to be well-read and often referred to by therapists and physicians, as well as psychiatrists wanting to brush up on the biology of the mind.

Synopsis Revolutions in Romantic Literature by : Paul Keen

This concise Broadview anthology of primary source materials is unique in its focus on Romantic literature and the ways in which the period itself was characterized by wide-ranging, self-conscious debates about the meaning of literature. It includes materials that are not available in other Romantic literature anthologies. The anthology is organized into thirteen sections that highlight the intensity and sophistication with which a variety of related literary issues were debated in the Romantic period. These debates posed fundamental questions about the very nature of literature as a cultural phenomenon, the extent and role of the reading public, literature’s relation to the sciences and the aesthetic, the influence of contemporary commercial pressures, and the impact of perceived excesses in consumer fashions. The anthology foregrounds the ways that these literary debates converged with broader social and political controversies such as the French Revolution, the struggle for women’s rights, colonialism, and the anti-slave trade campaign. This anthology includes an impressive range of writings from the period (including literary criticism and philosophical, political, scientific, and travel writing) which embodies the collection’s broad approach to Romantic literature. Both lesser-known and more canonical writings are included, and the selections are organized by topic in such a way as to dramatize the debates and exchanges which characterize the Romantic period.

Synopsis Al- Hidaya (The Guidance) Vol 1 by : Burhan Al Din Al Farghani Al Marghinani

The Hidayah has dominated the field of Islamic jurisprudence since the day it was written over 800 years ago. It has been the primary text used by Muslims jurist to issue authentic and reliable rulingson Islamic law according to the school of Imam Abu Hanifa (d 150H/767CE). The Hidayah commands such an authoritative position amonst the doctors of law that the knowledge of a scholar hoa has not read it is not considered reliable. It has been a standard text in the curricula of Islamic law schools since the 12th century. It was first translated into English by Charles Hamilton in 1791. Around 70 hude commentaries, some spread over more than a dozen volumes have been written on it. The number of explanatory glosses is in thousands. Comprehensive in content and conveniently organized, with the publication of this all previous workds that discussed Islamic jurisprudence according to the Hanafi law become outmoded and soon fell into disuse. If revealed books are not taken into account, never has a book received so much attention as the Hidayah. This landmark publication of the HIdayah not only has been translated in its entirety for the first time but has been done so from Arabic, the language in which it was written.
