Qatar at the Crossroads of the World was the first open-attendance digital event launched and co-hosted by QFZA and TBY in Qatar. The opening remarks were delivered by HE Ahmad Al-Sayed, Minister of State & Chairman of the Board of QFZA, and participants included guest experts Amitendu Palit, Senior Research Fellow, ISAS, National University of Singapore and World Economic Forum, and Oktawian Kuc, Investment Policy Officer of the Division on Investment and Enterprise, UNCTAD, who explained the importance of enhancing and deepening international economic relations to achieve full recovery in the post pandemic world and the role of special economic zones. This 16-page report is a summary of the topics covered during the event, and also includes additional interviews and analysis.

Beginning with an explanation of the IUCN Red List as a key conservation tool, it goes on to discuss the state of the world s species and provides the latest information on the patterns of species facing extinction in some of the most important ecosystems in the world, highlighting the reasons behind their declining status. The Global Industrial Complex: Systems of Domination is a groundbreaking collection of essays by a diverse set of leading scholars who examine the entangled and evolving global array of corporate-state structures of hegemonic power--what the editors refer to as "the power complex"--that was first analyzed by C. Wright Mills in his 1956 classic work, The Power Elite. In this new volume edited by Steven Best, Richard Kahn, Anthony J. Nocella II, and Peter McLaren, the power complex is conceived as co-constituted, interdependent and imbricated systems of domination. Spreading insidiously on a global level, the transnational institutional relationships of the power complex combine the logics of capitalist exploitation and profits and industrialist norms of efficiency, control, and mass production, While some have begun to analyze these institutional complexes as separate entities, this book is unique in analyzing them as overlapping, mutually-enforcing systems that operate globally and which will undoubtedly frame the macro-narrative of the 21st century (and perhaps beyond). The global industrial complex--a grand power complex of complexes--thus poses one of the most formidable challenges to the sustainability of planetary democracy, freedom and peace today. But there can be no serious talk of opposition to it until it is more popularly named and understood. The Global Industrial Complex aims to be a foundational contribution to this emerging educational and political project.

EveryWoman, a coalition of women’s organizations and formations (currently numbering 11), combined with individual women affiliates and backed up by a FaceBook Page (with more than 100,000 followers), was formally organized in August, 2017, for the purpose of defending democracy and upholding women’s rights and dignity at a time when these are under severe attack not only in the Philippines but globally. We had come together, cutting across diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, professional, ideological, and generational backgrounds, to propel organized pushback against the further erosion of civic (also civil) space and of the status and rights that Filipino women have fought hard to attain and have won over the years. As such, our actions in the past years have tended towards the loud and dramatic – in the streets, in public fora, in stinging public statements, often joining our voice with those of our allied Hubs in Tindig Pilipinas. A book had no space in our crowded blueprint for 2020. But then the COVID-19 pandemic happened. As with everyone else, EveryWoman’s world was turned upside down. Needing to get back our bearings – personally, organizationally, politically – we started discussions to try to understand the situation better, including the nature of this global health crisis, how it was affecting different aspects of our national life, how it was especially reshaping women’s lives on the ground, how government was responding (or not), the role of the private sector and other institutions, the plight of ordinary citizens. We probed our own areas of work and engagement. We invited friends and colleagues where we needed help. We saw it to be our responsibility to continue to surface and strengthen women’s perspectives and agency in these difficult and extraordinary times. And, thus, this book was born, emerging from every woman talking to each other and claiming our space to speak up and be heard, intent to make a difference – especially since we saw no women at the frontlines of the national task force set up by the President to respond to the crisis.

This book includes papers presented at the Third International Transformation (ITX3) Conference and Workshop on Leader Development, held in Washington, DC, at the National Defense University (NDU) on June 19-20, 2013, as well as a summary of the conference discussions. Sponsored by Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQSACT), and supported by the International Transformation (ITX) Chairs Network, the conference brought together academics, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss the topic of Changing Mindsets to Transform Security: Leader Development for an Unpredictable and Complex World. In July 2012, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin E. Dempsey, U.S.A., released the Joint Education White Paper, challenging those in the Professional Military Education and Joint Professional Military Education community to develop "agile, adaptive leaders with the requisite values, strategic vision and critical thinking skills necessary to keep pace with the changing strategic environment." In response, and to support NATO National Chiefs of Transformation efforts, the ITX Chairs Network issued a call for papers to increase the understanding of leader development, refine concepts, and develop content to be used in U.S. and international fora. Seventeen of the papers published here were presented in Washington. Two of the papers were submitted before the conference, but the authors were not able to attend. The views are those of the individual authors. Based on the themes developed during the conference, the papers are grouped in five categories: 1) Human Dimension of Transformation; 2) Changing Nature of Adult Education-Drivers of Change; 3) Perspectives on Joint Education; 4) International Attitudes; and 5) Enlisted Education and Other Concepts. Keeping in mind the necessity as well as the urgency of reform, this volume brings together practitioners as well as researchers on defence issues, on the key issue of defence reforms. The aim is not just to interrogate the status of reforms in current times but to also place the issue before a wider readership.
