Synopsis The Origins of Nostalgia by : Svetlana Boym

This collection of previously unpublished autobiographical and semi-autobiographical “snippets of experience” written by Svetlana Boym in the final period of her life capture her penchant for seamlessly melding, poetically and dream-like, the intensively personal with the everyday and the world-historical. They illuminate the formative conditions for the thinking which she was to develop into her majestic work on nostalgia. Importantly, these pieces fill in gaps in understanding the genesis and scope of her take on the world. For readers both familiar with her work and for those new to it, The Origins of Nostalgia will enable our own cultural past as well as that of the former Soviet Union to be viewed in a different light.

Synopsis Tetrascroll by : R. Buckminster Fuller

A series of twenty-one original triangular lithographs (with narrative captions) which may be displayed in a helical scroll of linked tetrahedra. They were executed during the years 1975 and 1976 under the guiding light of Tatyana Grosman (to whom Fuller had been introduced by Edwin Schlossberg) at her ULAE print workshop in West Islip, Long Island. In something of a publishing innovation this trade book was brought out concurrently with a limited edition of the signed original lithographs. Michael Denneny was the editorial impresario at St. Martin's and Ronald Feldman Fine Arts handled the exhibition of the lithographs. Fuller composed the Tetrascroll between the publication of Synergetics in 1975 and Synergetics 2 in 1979. He had been frustrated by the rigid structure of the synergetics books which, despite certain advantages, he felt robbed the work of spontaneity and narrative force. To compensate for this Fuller worked feverishly on the Tetrascroll as a free-form obbligato to the synergetics books. He explained to me at the time, "The empirical, the scientific way to present the argument of synergetics is the way I am doing it in Goldilocks. Synopsis Fairy Worlds and Workers by : Marjorie Spock

The Middle Kingdom! Various times and peoples have given it different names. To some it was Paradise, to others Tir-nan-Og; Arthurian Avalon; Fairyland; the World of Immortal Youth; the Land of Heart's Desire. Where exactly is that country? Well, if God's is the world of creative power and ours the world of created objects, the fairy world is the land of life that lies between them, serv-ing as the bridge for their interaction. The fairyland and its denizens have long been the concern of poets, painters, and storytellers. Not only are these beings charged with the maintenance of Nature's household but with her evolutionary plans as well. Our recognition of them and their work helps their efforts prosper and helps the earth be carried forward in its evolution. Marjorie Spock draws aside the veil obscuring the life of the "Little People" and makes their magic world come alive for us. Included are color paintings of the four races of Little People: Undines (water spir-its), Gnomes (earth spirits), Sylphs (air spirits), and Fire-Spirits. This is a delightful and engaging book!

Synopsis Inside the Cosmic Mind by : Phoebe Wyss

Phoebe Wyss, an experienced astrologer, here examines all aspects of astrology in the light of the emerging worldview known as archetypal cosmology. She sets out by exploring the classical roots of astrology in sources of wisdom found in the ancient Egyptian mysteries. She then follows the tradition to modern times through C.G. Jung's ideas on the nature of the psyche. She also discovers that the claims of astrology are entirely compatible with new cosmological thinking as envisioned by post-modern physics and chaos theory. In the second part of the book, she proposes that the mathematical basis of astrology and the components of astrological charts are both archetypal and cosmic in scope. She argues that the twelve astrological archetypes make up a single 'cosmic mind', whose patterns are imprinted on all our individual minds. Finally, she exemplifies this radical approach to astrology through an interpretation of the chart of William Blake.

Synopsis Kosmos: A Portrait of the Russian Space Age by :

The inherent contradictions of the Space Age -- the mixture of technologies high and low, of nostalgia and progress, of pathos and promise -- are revealed in Kosmos, Adam Bartos's astonishing photographic survey of the Soviet space program. Bartos's fascination with this subject led him to seek out places like the bedroom where Yuri Gagarian slept the night before his history-making flight into space, located in the Baiknour Cosmodrome, the one-time top-secret space complex in the Kazakh desert. Kosmos presents 94 of Bartos's photographs, rich with the incongruities of the history, science, culture, and politics of the Space Age.
