Synopsis The Cordillera - Volume 7 by : Christopher Bennett
Each June the world's toughest mountain bike race is held. Covering over 2,650 miles with over 170,000 feet of climbing, the race course follows dirt roads, muddy tracks and snow covered mountains along the Continental Divide from Banff Canada to the Mexican border at Antelope Wells New Mexico. This is the Tour Divide, a unique race where the clock never stops and outside support is forbidden. It is the rider and their bike against the elements-and the internal demons. The Cordillera is the journal of the Tour Divide. 2015 was an epic year with ideal racing conditions. This saw both the men's and woman's records fall. After two weeks of racing, the first three men finished within 46 minutes of each other. The Cordillera Volume 7 shares the stories of the successes, and challenges, of the 2015 Tour Divide. It shares the experiences of athletes plumbing the depths of endurance, in the transformational experience that is the Tour Divide.

Synopsis Women’s Movements and the Filipina by : ROCES, MARIA NATIVIDAD
This book is about a fundamental aspect of the feminist project in the Philippines: rethinking the Filipino woman. It focuses on how contemporary women's organizations have represented and refashioned the Filipina in their campaigns to improve women's status by locating her in history, society and politics; imagining her past, present and future; representing her in advocacy; and identifying strategies to transform her. The drive to alter the situation of women included a political aspect (lobbying and changing legislation) and a cultural one (modifying social attitudes and women’s own assessments of themselves). In this work Mina Roces examines the cultural side of the feminist agenda: how activists have critiqued Filipino womanhood and engaged in fashioning an alternative woman. How did activists theorize the Filipina and how did they use this analysis to lobby for pro-women’s legislation or alter social attitudes? What sort of Filipina role models did women’s organizations propose, and how were these new ideas disseminated to the general public? What cultural strategies did activists deploy in order to gain a mass following? Analyzing data from over seventy five interviews with feminist activists, radio and television shows, romance novels, periodicals and books published by women’s organizations and feminist nuns, comics, newsletters, and personal papers, Roces shows how representations of the Filipino woman have been central to debates about women’s empowerment. She explores the transnational character of women’s activism and offers a seminal study on the important contributions of feminist Catholic nuns. Women’s Movements and the Filipina provides an original and passionate account of the contemporary feminist movement in the Philippines, bringing to light how women’s organizations have initiated change in cultural attitudes and had a significant impact on contemporary Philippine society.

Synopsis World War II Sea War, Vol 7: The Allies Strike Back by : Donald A Bertke
From September through November 1942, the Allies defeated the Axis forces on all active fronts. On land, the British defeated Rommel in Operation SUPERCHARGE, the US Marines defeated the Japanese on Guadalcanal, and the Russians trapped the German Sixth Army at Stalingrad and disrupted the entire Axis southern front in Russia. At sea, the Royal Navy landed desperately needed supplies on Malta in Operations PEDESTAL and STONEAGE; the USN defended the US Marines on Guadalcanal from a Japanese attack in the Battle of Cape Esperance; the Allies landed troops at Morocco and Algeria in Operation TORCH; USN cruisers sank a Japanese battleship in the 1st Battle of Savo Island; the 2nd Battle of Savo Island was the only battleship-to-battleship engagement of the war in the Pacific; the Battle of the North Atlantic increased in intensity; and the Germans tried to capture the French Fleet at Toulon, France, in Operation ANTON, only to arrive as the ships sank beneath the sea.
