Synopsis Histopathology of Preclinical Toxicity Studies by : Peter Greaves

This work covers effectively all aspects of drug-induced pathology that may be encountered within preclinical toxicity studies. It fills a gap in the pathology literature relating to the preclinical safety assessment of new medicines. It systematically describes, in one volume, both spontaneous and drug induced pathology on an organ by organ basis. Information relevant to understanding the nature of pathological changes in pre-clinical studies and assessment of their relevance to the clinical investigation of new drugs is also covered. Numerous colour photographs are included that highlight and embellish the histopathological features that are described. It also contains many pertinent references to both human and animal pathology forming an essential basis for the assessment of drug-induced pathology.NEW TO THE THIRD EDITION:* Covers drug induced pathology in preclinical (animal) studies and their relevance for patients or volunteers in clinical studies* General comments to each chapter about the relevance of pathological findings to humans* Provides essential information that can help decide the relevance of particular lesions for patients

Synopsis Genitourinary Pathology E-Book by : Ming Zhou

Genitourinary Pathology, by Drs. Ming Zhou and Cristina Magi-Galluzzi, a volume in the Foundations in Diagnostic Pathology Series, packs all of today's most essential information on genitourinary pathology into a compact, high-yield format! Well-organized and segmented by type of infectious organism, the book's pragmatic approach complemented by abundant full-color, high-quality photomicrographs and clinical photos, and at-a-glance tables makes it easy to access the information you need to quickly and accurately detect and identify molecular and genetic mechanisms of disease. Consult this title on your favorite e-reader, conduct rapid searches, and adjust font sizes for optimal readability. Easily review normal histology before examining abnormal findings so you can avoid false positives. Gain a superb visual understanding of important histologic features with hundreds of full-color illustrations representing a wide variety of pathologic lesions. Benefit from the same highly practical format as other titles in this series: consistent headings throughout, summary boxes for pathologic and clinical features, high quality photomicrographs and clinical photos, and a logical organization by type of infectious organism. Avoid incorrect diagnoses with a separate section on artifacts and pitfalls that highlights common problems you may encounter. Get up-to-date, comprehensive coverage of the field, including new renal cell carcinoma subtypes and intraductal carcinoma of the prostate; newer immunohistochemical and molecular markers; and updates to the Gleason Grading system for prostate cancer, Fuhrman Grading system for renal cell carcinoma, and TNM classification for GU malignancies.

Synopsis Physiological Engineering Aspects of Penicillium Chrysogenum by : Jens Nielsen

The book gives a review of penicillin production by Penicillium chrysogenum, and also deals with a number of general aspects of fungal cultivations, e.g. primary metabolism of filamentous fungi, morphology, monitoring of fungal cultivations, and bioreactor performance (more than 750 references). The first two chapters give an introduction to the area of penicillin production; with a review of the history and a survey of the present status of this industrially very important process in the first chapter. In the second chapter is given an introduction to the microorganism, i.e. its nutritional requirements, its taxonomy, and an overview of different strain development programmes.Chapter 3 gives an introduction to the concept of Physiological Engineering. This is followed by a review of various monitoring techniques and different theoretical techniques for analysis of cultivation processes, e.g. mathematic modeling, metabolic flux analysis, and metabolic control analysis.Chapter 4 and 5 give a review of the metabolism, with the primary metabolism being the topic of Chapter 4 and the secondary metabolism, i.e. penicillin biosynthesis, being the topic of Chapter 5. The review of the penicillin biosynthetic pathway is followed by a description of a number of results obtained using metabolic flux and metabolic control analysis.Chapter 6 is devoted to the morphology of the fungus, and it gives a detailed description of the growth mechanisms of filamentous fungi.Chapter 7 deals with the bioreactor performance during fungal cultivations, i.e. medium rheology, gas-liquid mass transfer, and mixing. Finally is the fed-batch process applied for penicillin production described in Chapter 8. It gives an overview of the most important factors influencing penicillin production.
