Synopsis The American Legion Weekly, Vol. 5 by : American Legion National Headquarters
Excerpt from The American Legion Weekly, Vol. 5: August 24, 1923 I realize that hospital life is a hard, dreary life at best. Anything for diver sion. I've been through it all myself. I am for recreation any and all the time when it can be had without injury to a man's condition. But dissipation isn't recreation. The men I speak of are in the minority; probably ten percent of the total patient population at Whipple Barracks. But if our hospitalization program is to accomplish what it has set out to accomplish these men must be taken in hand._ If stern measures are necessary they should be applied. The authorities can be sure of the backing of the vast majority of the patients who want to get well and who will implicitly obey regulations looking to that end. When my friend finished speaking I asked him if he minded if I mentioned a few of the things he had told me.
