Synopsis Tennis, Drugs, and Jesus Christ by : Eric Miller

About the Book This book is about a hard-partying Oklahoma, USA tennis family that went from Atheism to Christianity. This book is about how much I love Rock ‘n’ Roll music and comedy. I did my best trying to get all the dates and facts correct, but they’re not perfect. Here is a sociological fact: if one parent is chemically dependent, their children have a fifty percent chance of being chemically dependent. If both parents are chemically dependent, their children have a 75 percent chance of being chemically dependent. The Miller family nailed it. Both parents were chemically dependent. Three out of four of their children were chemically dependent. The Miller family's life is part tragedy and part comedy. Please laugh as hard as you want. Drug abuse is a nightmare. I am not glamorizing drug use in my book. Warning! I have severe ADHD. I've been in special Ed classes my whole life. I've never passed an English class in my life. I'm not a writer, I did my best. I hope you enjoy the Miller family true story. About the Author Hello warriors. My name is Eric Miller. I'm a white liberal, tennis loving, recovering drug addict, trying to let God run my life, good dude. I was born in Iowa City, Iowa in 1966. I grew up in Norman Oklahoma the land of OU sooner football. I was an average NAIA college tennis player for East Central University in Ada Oklahoma. I taught tennis professionally in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for a long time. I now live in Estes Park Colorado, at close to 8,000 feet. I live with my best friend, my 75-pound, female, deaf dog named Prudence. I've never had children or been married. I'm 100 percent for civil rights for all. Not just for white American males.

Synopsis The Twelve Steps and the Sacraments by : Scott Weeman

Winner of a 2018 Catholic Press Association Award: Sacraments. (Second Place). In the first book to directly integrate the Twelve Steps with the practice of Catholicism, Scott Weeman, founder and director of Catholic in Recovery, pairs his personal story with compassionate straight talk to show Catholics how to bridge the commonly felt gap between the Higher Power of twelve-step programs and the merciful God that he rediscovered in the heart of the sacraments. Weeman entered sobriety from alcohol and drugs on October 10, 2011, and he's made it his full-time ministry to help others who struggle with various types of addiction to find spiritual wholeness through Catholic in Recovery, an organization he founded and directs. In The Twelve Steps and the Sacraments, Weeman candidly tackles the struggle he and other addicts have with getting to know intimately the unnamed Higher Power of recovery. He shares stories of his compulsion to find a personal relationship with God and how his tentative steps back to the Catholic Church opened new doors of healing and brought him surprising joy as he came to know Christ in the sacraments. Catholics in recovery and those moving toward it, as well as the people who love them will recognize Weeman's story and his spiritual struggle to personally encounter God. He tells us how: Baptism helps you admit powerlessness over an unmanageable problem, face your desperate need for God, and choose to believe in and submit to God’s mercy. Reconciliation affirms and strengthens the hard work of examining your life, admitting wrongs, and making amends. The Eucharist provides ongoing sustenance and draws you to the healing power of Christ. The graces of Confirmation strengthen each person to keep moving forward and to share the good news of recovery and new life in Christ. Weeman's words are boldly challenging and brimming with compassion and through them you will discover inspiration, hope, sage advice, and refreshingly practical help.

Synopsis Going Postal by : Dale Duke

Have you ever wondered what your letter carrier is doing when you're not looking? What do some of them do with the mail when theyre all alone in their vehicle or working the graveyard shift at night? Did you ever have mail disappear or mail that looks tempered with? Are you comfortable with the mailman who delivers your mail? Are any of the workers criminals, peeping toms or child molesters? GOING POSTAL answers all of those questions and gives true examples of what has happened in cities around the country. What are the unions in the Postal Service really like? Are they there to help the Postal Service to become stronger and better or are they simply there to undermine the business and get employees off the hook when they commit heinous behaviors? What about higher level management at the upper levels of the organization? Do they treat their employees well or is profane abuse a common behavior by those in charge? Does the Postal Service employee dangerous individuals, especially persons that may be a hazard to your children? The book tells it all in a true, accurate format. A must read!

Synopsis Sermons on the First Readings by : Tony Everett

Modern life presents many difficult and challenging situations -- but as the Hebrew scriptures tell us in rich detail, that's nothing new for God's people. Indeed, the Bible shares the epic story of how God's faithful followers were formed and shaped through centuries of trial by fire. In this inspiring collection of powerful messages based on the First Readings from Cycle A of the Revised Common Lectionary, five master practitioners of the homiletic craft explore passages from the Old Testament and the Book of Acts, and show how the wisdom contained in those ancient texts offers vital moral and spiritual guidance for contemporary living. Building on stories in which God moves ordinary people to extraordinary heights, these sermons for each Sunday and major celebration throughout the entire church year passionately proclaim the good news of God's continuing presence -- and the possibilities that offers for our lives, our churches, and the world. This essential resource is useful for: - Fresh homiletical approaches to the lectionary texts - Inspiring preaching illustrations and sermon starters - Understanding scripture passages - Bible study and discussion groups - Personal devotions and inspirational reading Tony S. Everett is currently the Dewey F.
