When Zara Gates is abducted by a future civilization of humans, she's not sure how to react. When they tell her that they will be impregnating her, so that they can harvest the stem cells from her aborted fetuses, she finds herself in a world of hopelessness and self-pity. Thankfully, she's not alone. Two young lab techs, Li, a man, and Fei, a woman, keep track of her on most days in her living quarters. She forms a particular bond with Li, who makes it his mission to help the poor girl return to her own time, despite how strict his leaders are. ---------------------------------------------------------- EXCERPT FROM BOOK They came to a door like all the other doors, and it had one of the white tags on it, which read "EHC: 607." It was locked, so the escort on Zara's left pulled out a flat, black, plastic key and put it in a hole on the door, though there was no know. Zara didn't even think of running in the brief moment that her escort didn't attend to her. The door slid open quickly, hiding within the wall. Inside, the white theme continued. Zara made a mental note to not spill any food in here, should her captors feed her at all. There was a bed in the corner, it was enclosed with walls and one could move down, like it was a crib. There was also a table, a chair, but that was really it. There wasn't a whole lot of space. There weren't any windows. Zara began to feel trapped. She looked up at what she was beginning to realize were her captors, and they were looking down at her, making blatant eye contact, still human eyes, she thought. They were no longer holding her by her arms, and instead seemed to be urging her forward, to sit, perhaps. So Zara went over and sat. She did it even though she was beginning to regain control of her legs, because there was nowhere else to sit, and she had to admit, she felt tired. The chair was simple, straight backed, no cushions, but still comfortable. It encouraged posture, and rewarded it with a strange ease in tension. Zara felt it in her neck, and she realized she had been straining her shoulders the entire time until then. She exhaled slowly.
