For me, this book is an abidance of the growth of a particular area that is known for its culture and tradition. Not only that, this book gives me a chance to know my birth-place (Tripura). Bamboo often known as the 'Green Gold' is one of the fastest and highest yielding renewable natural resources. It has been found abundantly in all over the State of Northeast region of India. Since time immemorial, bamboo has been intertwined with socio-cultural and economic life of the tribal and rural poor. Its value is being rediscovered as important natural resources for poverty reduction and environment protection. The reduction of chronic poverty, to improve the socio-economic conditions of the rural poor and tribal in Northeastern states of India is a daunting task through local economic development programs. In Asia, bamboos take the character of "poor man's timber" since for many people, bamboo growing, harvesting and processing are essentially subsistence activities. It is a fundamental part of people's overall livelihood strategies.1

The term Tribe generally referred as human social group which mainly live in a forested region and survive by hunting animals and by carrying out shifting cultivation. They have their own culture, religious beliefs and traditions which are completely different from main stream practices. Tribal’s are the group of people who live in forests or backward areas. They are completely depended on forests for their livelihood and survival. Indian constitutional assembly members notified the facts that certain communities in India were suffering from extreme social, educational and economical backwardness. These communities were notified as Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes as per the provisions contained in clause 1 of article 341 and 342 of the Constitution respectively. After the Africa, India has the largest tribal community in the world. Among the marginalized people, Tribals had a long history. In ancient times people were segregated the Tribal on various reasons. India is one of the diversified and largest tribal populated countries in the world. According to the 2011 census tribal population in India is 104 million or 8.6 percent of the total population.

Globally, women are facing social, economic, and cultural barriers impeding their autonomy and agency. Accelerated women empowerment programs often fail to attain their targets as envisaged by the policymakers due to a variety of reasons, with the most prominent being the deep-rooted cultural norms ingrained within society. In the era of globalization, empowerment of women demands new approaches and strategies that encourage the mainstreaming of gender equality as a societal norm.
