Synopsis When God Talks Back by : T.M. Luhrmann
A New York Times Notable Book A Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2012 A bold approach to understanding the American evangelical experience from an anthropological and psychological perspective by one of the country's most prominent anthropologists. Through a series of intimate, illuminating interviews with various members of the Vineyard, an evangelical church with hundreds of congregations across the country, Tanya Luhrmann leaps into the heart of evangelical faith. Combined with scientific research that studies the effect that intensely practiced prayer can have on the mind, When God Talks Back examines how normal, sensible people—from college students to accountants to housewives, all functioning perfectly well within our society—can attest to having the signs and wonders of the supernatural become as quotidian and as ordinary as laundry. Astute, sensitive, and extraordinarily measured in its approach to the interface between science and religion, Luhrmann's book is sure to generate as much conversation as it will praise.

Synopsis The Spirit of Attack by : Bruce Gordon
SCRAMBLE! In a couple of minutes my wingman and I would be airborne on another adventure. Sometimes we intercepted an airliner, sometimes a misplaced B-52 bomber, and sometimes Russian bombers probing our defenses; Russian warships; MIG fighters; or troops in contact in Vietnam, calling for napalm only yards from their positions. Twice it was UFOs - Unidentified Flying Objects! This book is a series of short stories, supported by more than 90 photographs. The first part has my own stories; later stories were contributed by my fellow pilots. The last story is from WW II of our P-38 fighters attacking the Romanian oil fields and getting badly mauled by defending Romanian fighters - and a Romanian pilot's view of the battle! Only the spirit of attack borne in a brave heart will bring success to any fighter aircraft, to matter how highly developed the aircraft may be. That quote from Adolf Galland, an Ace of the German Luftwaffe in WW II, was the motto of our 317th Fighter Interceptor Squadron in Alaska. The fighter pilot is a hunter, and his quarry is the most dangerous in the world - men who want to kill him! The best defense is a good offense - ATTACK! The US Air Force had a program called Every Man a Tiger. A tiger does not kill impulsively or in anger, but plans his attack carefully and strikes with cool ferocity. We were tigers! Fighter pilots tell stories around the bar, but they seldom write them down. These stories were written by the fighter pilots themselves! Come with me and hear of the beauty of flight, the mortal danger of electrical power failure at night in a snowstorm, and the thrill of attack with 20mm cannons firing right under your feet!

Synopsis Connect with Heaven: Talk to Angels, Contact Spirit, Spiritual Gifts by : Cynthia a. Christman
We Can Talk with Our Loved Ones in Heaven! In her first message to me from her new world, my twin sister Terri described her transformation to spirit. "I saw the accident because I was already out of the car when it happened. I was floating above the car with the angels. I didn't feel any pain or suffering. I felt nothing but peace as my spirit left my body. There was a swirl of energy surrounding me; my energy became encompassed and encased into that energy. It was a breath of the fresh air I had longed for, for so long. A weary soul was able to return home fulfilled." We were all born with the innate ability to see and hear angels and the spirits of our deceased loved ones. We played with them. We talked with them. We were friends with them. Unfortunately, for most of us, the adults in our life didn't remember their childhood friends. They told us that these beings were imaginary because they could no longer see or hear them. When we stopped talking to them, our friends went away. They were still around us; we just could not see or hear them anymore. And because we could not see or hear them, we accepted the mistaken belief that we need to see or hear something for it to exist. For Terri, much of her existence is still the same. She continues to take classes and serve God in her new home. She had reunited with family and friends that lined up to welcome her when she arrived on the Other Side. She has not forgotten the family she left behind on the Earth Plane. She is still very much a part of our lives. She has flickered lights and gifted pennies and feathers. She has visited various family members in different ways; as a white or yellow butterfly, a dragonfly, and even a little green frog! She has come to all of us in our dreams. Her youngest grandchildren can still see and talk with her, while the rest of our family works to re-develop our loss abilities. In Connect with Heaven: Talk to Angels, Contact Spirit, Spiritual Gifts, you will find methods to re-discover your lost gifts of communicating with angels and the deceased, along with dozens of riveting, first-hand accounts of spiritual experiences. What would you ask a loved one in Heaven? What would they tell you about their new world?

Synopsis Beyond and Before, Updated and Expanded Edition by : Paul Hegarty
The original edition of Beyond and Before extends an understanding of “progressive rock” by providing a fuller definition of what progressive rock is, was and can be. Called by Record Collector “the most accomplished critical overview yet” of progressive rock and one of their 2011 books of the year, Beyond and Before moves away from the limited consensus that prog rock is exclusively English in origin and that it was destroyed by the advent of punk in 1976. Instead, by tracing its multiple origins and complex transitions, it argues for the integration of jazz and folk into progressive rock and the extension of prog in Kate Bush, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree and many more. This 10-year anniversary revised edition continues to further unpack definitions of progressive rock and includes a brand new chapter focusing on post-conceptual trends in the 2010s through to the contemporary moment. The new edition discusses the complex creativity of progressive metal and folk in greater depth, as well as new fusions of genre that move across global cultures and that rework the extended form and mission of progressive rock, including in recent pop concept albums. All chapters are revised to keep the process of rethinking progressive rock alive and vibrant as a hybrid, open form.
