Synopsis Song Spray (Classic Reprint) by : Thomas Stephens Collier
Excerpt from Song Spray To A. C. C. If one should paint a vision of delight; Or write a song, throbbing with passion's fire, That all true souls would cherish and admire; Or win from out the silences of night, Some thought, so potent in resistless might, That a great nation's heart it would inspire To noble deeds, and heavenward desire, Would not love have the honor by all right? Therefore if in these pages one shall find A helpful thought, or pleasure-giving song, A beacon rising in life's tossing sea, It is the influence of thy tender mind; If I have written helpful words, or strong, Or love inspired, the honor lies with thee. Synopsis Thoughts in Song (Classic Reprint) by : Charles R. Dodge
Excerpt from Thoughts in Song But my songs vare all my own; Untaught songs, that while I sing The reward of pleasure bring. So, the bird upon the spray, Pouring forth rich melody From his little upturned throat, Finds a pleasure in each note; And among the busy throng Some may listen to the song, Feeling but the joy it brings. Synopsis Song Book I (Classic Reprint) by : New York Society for Ethical Culture
Excerpt from Song Book I The treasures of eternal worth, The jewels of celestial fire, Are oft enshrined in basest earth, In caskets that repel desire. But happy he who holds the key That Opens wide each heavy lid; In awe and wonder he shall see The glory and the beauty hid. Such casket is each human wight, That holds a gem beyond compare, If it could but be brought to light, And in its radiance be laid bare. Ah, thou thyself must be the key The secret of the lock to find, Thy life the beauty must set free That slumbers in thy neighbor's mind. Synopsis Songs for Little People (Classic Reprint) by : Norman Gale
Excerpt from Songs for Little People This book is designed for a position between such extremes as the frankly babyish song books and Stevenson's exquisite and ever lasting memorials of a child by no means typical. Considering the audience approached, it must be admitted that a few rather difficult words have been allowed entry into the verses but these have not come by chance, for the author has endeavoured to attract children up to the ages of fourteen and fifteen, as well as those requiring, because of their tenderer years, poems of the simplest sort. Mothers and grown-up sisters or aunts will, it is hoped, translate and explain whenever a young reader. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Synopsis Sheaves of Song (Classic Reprint) by : Marion Delana Daniel
Excerpt from Sheaves of Song Sweet organs In their reach, water-sprites, upon the beach, Play Nature's thought and Poet's speech In music tones. In tender touch, Deep, regular and full of tone, Upon the keys of jutting stone, The chords of Nature, one by one, Their echoes couch. Sometimes in beat Of dashing spray, she plays the part Of passion-note, of bounding heart; Then sings her soul with Slower start, In minors sweet. For viol strings, The whispering winds she deftly takes, And breathing low sweet tremors, wakes Pathetic pleading, passion-breaks. Synopsis Sea Spray by : Jeannie Bednall
Excerpt from Sea Spray: And Other Poems Never have dared to put forward this little work. Even now, when I read the words of our great song - makers - and indeed, of some of those who are comparatively unknown - I wonder at my own temerity in doing so; but again I take courage when I think that, after listening to the sweetest of our song birds, there are some among us who can take pleasure in the chirpings, and twitterings of the sparrows who come boldly to bur doors to ask for crumbs. And so. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Synopsis The High Road of Song by : Hollis Dann
Excerpt from The High Road of Song: Book Two, Part Songs The sine qua non of school music is, Of course, s1ng1ng. Whatever else Of musm activities may have to be omitted, no child should miss the pleas ure, the stimulation, and the training provided by joining with his fellows in song. (from Programme of Studies, Department of Education for Ontario.) The High Road of Song, Book I I provides an abundance of two and three-part song material for class singing in Grades V to VIII, and for public performance. For several reasons it is best to defer extensive part singing until the pupil has formed safe vocal habits and is able to read and sing one-part music with comparative facility. NO normal child should be allowed, much less required, to sing the lower part exclusively, though all should learn to sing a second part. Children who are inexperienced in music will find difficulty in singing one part while listening to another. Part singing is an ear problem as well as a sight-singing one. Rounds are especially useful in developing the power to sing in the presence of an other melody. The round should be sung again and again as a unison song until the children are thoroughly familiar with it; then it may be attempted as a round. At the same time, short tone drills should be given'from dicta tion or from the blackboard. At all times children should be encouraged to sing easily, without forcing the voice.
