Synopsis Intelligent Transport Systems in Europe by : Mike McDonald
"Unluckily, in the recent literature the number of papers on the application of intelligent systems, especially fuzzy sets, have been decreasing considerably. The potential for those applications, however, has not diminished at all. On the contrary, the more complex applications become and the more decision support systems rely on human knowledge and experience, the more relevant and attractive become intelligent techniques. For publications, however, very often the problem arises, that those applications are not suited for publication because they are too complex for any one paper. In this paper it will be attempted to describe important applications in traffic control, in container terminal management and in ground control of airports and give further indications on other possible applications."--Publisher's website.

Synopsis FHWA International Technology Scanning Program Study Tour Summary Report on European Intermodal Programs by : George Schoener
In September 1993, a team of four government and state transportation association representatives made a two-week scanning trip to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany to discuss and report on European experiences with intermodal freight transportation policies and systems. The objective was to observe and document information on European Community (EC) - sometimes referred to as European Union (EU) - methods and experiences in the planning and administration, system development, environmental compliance, financing, marketing, and operation of increasingly complex and capital-intensive intermodal freight systems and facilities. To the extent that such information was pertinent to the public and private sector transportation community in the United States, it would be documented in the form of a summary report.

Synopsis Sustainable Transportation and Smart Logistics by : Javier Faulin
Sustainable Transportation and Smart Logistics: Decision-Making Models and Solutions provides deterministic and probabilistic models for transportation logistics problem-solving and decision-making. The book presents an overview of the intersections between sustainability, transportation, and logistics, and delves into the current problems associated with the implementation of sustainable transportation and smart logistics in urban settings. It also offers models for addressing complex structural problems and procedures for estimating transportation externalities such as environmental and social impacts, both in industrial and government arenas, as well as decision-making models from operational, tactical, and strategic management perspectives. Sustainable Transportation and Smart Logistics also covers best practices for practical corporate policy implementation, making it a comprehensive and vital resource for researchers, graduate students, practitioners, and policy makers in transportation, logistics, urban planning, economics, engineering, and environmental science. - Examines various modes of transportation - Includes mathematical models for decision-making in a wide variety of situations - Presents public transportation and smart cities use cases

Synopsis Smart Urban Mobility by : Michèle Finck
This book adds a critical perspective to the legal dialogue on the regulation of ‘smart urban mobility’. Mobility is one of the most visible sub-domains of the ‘smart city’, which has become shorthand for technological advances that influence how cities are structured, public services are fashioned, and citizens coexist. In the urban context, mobility has come under pressure due to a variety of different forces, such as the implementation of new business models (e.g. car and bicycle sharing), the proliferation of alternative methods of transportation (e.g. electric scooters), the emergence of new market players and stakeholders (e.g. internet and information technology companies), and advancements in computer science (in particular due to artificial intelligence). At the same time, demographic changes and the climate crisis increase innovation pressure. In this context law is a seminal factor that both shapes and is shaped by socio-economic and technological change. This book puts a spotlight on recent developments in smart urban mobility from a legal, regulatory, and policy perspective. It considers the implications for the public sector, businesses, and citizens in relation to various areas of public and private law in the European Union, including competition law, intellectual property law, contract law, data protection law, environmental law, public procurement law, and legal philosophy. Chapter 'Location Data as Contractual Counter-Performance: A Consumer Perspective on Recent EU Legislation' of this book is available open access under a CC BY 4.0 license at link.springer.com.
