Synopsis Select Remnants by : Felipe B. Nery
This is the last episode and effort by Felipe B. Nery to publish the remainder of his poems and essays spanning a period of several decades involving various topics. It covers, to a large extent, the Macanese Diaspora. The Macanese people, through no fault of theirs, are subsequently scattered the world over. They hope, now, wherever they may have settled to be the final home for them and for their children. This is the third book consisting of poems and essays written by Felipe B. Nery for the past decades, which he believes would interest his readers. It covers a variety of topics ranging from health, politics, religion, sports, economics, diseases, foods and so on. These topics are too interesting to be set aside or discard as they somehow touch each and everyone's life, in the process. During the period covered, many things have happened to change the political scenes, scientific knowledge, birth and destruction of nations, such as: The end of Facism, Nazism, partial demise of Communism (in Soviet Russia), takeover of China by the Reds, the end of colonialism, changes occurring in Eastern Europe, birth of a new nation- Israel, wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, the invention of cell phones, advances made in medicines, invention of computers, invention of television, improving the automobiles (also making them available to the average people), improving the airplanes which are now the preferred mode of travel. During this period, the Macanese people had to leave Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macau, not unlike the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt dubbed Diaspora. The Macanese people are now dispersed throughout the world. We refer this episode to be "The Macanese Diaspora."

Synopsis The Remnants of War by : John Mueller
"War... is merely an idea, an institution, like dueling or slavery, that has been grafted onto human existence. It is not a trick of fate, a thunderbolt from hell, a natural calamity, or a desperate plot contrivance dreamed up by some sadistic puppeteer on high. And it seems to me that the institution is in pronounced decline, abandoned as attitudes toward it have changed, roughly following the pattern by which the ancient and formidable institution of slavery became discredited and then mostly obsolete."—from the Introduction War is one of the great themes of human history and now, John Mueller believes, it is clearly declining. Developed nations have generally abandoned it as a way for conducting their relations with other countries, and most current warfare (though not all) is opportunistic predation waged by packs—often remarkably small ones—of criminals and bullies. Thus, argues Mueller, war has been substantially reduced to its remnants—or dregs—and thugs are the residual combatants. Mueller is sensitive to the policy implications of this view. When developed states commit disciplined troops to peacekeeping, the result is usually a rapid cessation of murderous disorder. The Remnants of War thus reinvigorates our sense of the moral responsibility bound up in peacekeeping. In Mueller's view, capable domestic policing and military forces can also be effective in reestablishing civic order, and the building of competent governments is key to eliminating most of what remains of warfare.

Synopsis Remnants: Season of Glory by : Lisa Tawn Bergren
In the third and final volume of the Remnants series, the power of the Remnants and their people are growing, threatening Pacifica’s careful plans for domination. Among the Trading Union, village after village, outpost after outpost, and city after city are drawn to people of the Way, and agree to stand against those who hunt them. But Pacifica intends to ferret out and annihilate the Remnants—as well as everyone who hasn’t sworn allegiance to the empire—setting the stage for an epic showdown that will change the course of a world on the brink … forever.

Synopsis Formation And Evolution Of Black Holes In The Galaxy: Selected Papers With Commentary by : Hans A Bethe
In published papers H A Bethe and G E Brown worked out the collapse of large stars and supernova explosions. They went on to evolve binaries of compact stars, finding that in the standard scenario the first formed neutron star always went into a black hole in common envelope evolution. C-H Lee joined them in the study of black hole binaries and gamma ray bursts. They found the black holes to be the fossils of the gamma ray bursts. From their properties they could reconstruct features of the burst and of the accompanying hypernova explosions. This invaluable book contains 23 papers on astrophysics, chiefly on compact objects, written over 23 years. The papers are accompanied by illuminating commentary. In addition there is an appendix on kaon condensation which the editors believe to be relevant to the equation of state in neutron stars, and to explain why black holes are formed at relatively low masses.
