Synopsis Seeking to Become Whole by : Patricia Ambrose Welker
Seeking to Become Whole: Creating a Transformed Church for All the Children of God approaches the issue of marginalized persons-the other-by interpreting Jesus's parables in the context of progressive Christianity to create a church of love and justice for all God's children. Our society and church face a historical crisis. White people in America enjoy privilege just by being born. The other-the nonwhite, homosexuals, poor, prisoners, enemies, women, and those of other religions are not like "us." Jesus's parables and teachings form the heart of our understanding about how we treat the other. Jesus's parables spoke to the everyday problems of his society. Modern-day parables speak to today's problems, and Jesus's teachings guide us to dig deeply for the message he conveys. I submit that this book is particularly relevant to the current racial and ethnic crisis in our country and the continuing oppression of the LGBTQ community and women as they relate to the church. What can bring reconciliation to the divisions in the church? This book challenges the church and Christians to look deeply into our theology, our witness, and our teachings and seek to reconcile the marginalized in Jesus Christ. Synopsis Becoming Whole by : Brian Fikkert
Western Civilization is wealthier, but it isn’t happier. We are the richest people ever to walk the face of the earth, but according to research, we aren’t becoming happier. Families and communities are increasingly fragmented, loneliness is skyrocketing, and physical and mental health are on the decline. Our unprecedented wealth doesn’t seem to be doing us much good. Yet, when we try to help poor people at home or abroad, our implicit assumption is that the goal is to help them to become like us. "If they would just do things our way, they’d be fine!" But even when they seem to pursue our path, they too find that the American Dream doesn’t work for them. What if we have the wrong idea altogether? What if the molds we are using to help poor people don’t actually fit any of us? What if the goal isn’t to turn other countries into the United States or to turn America’s impoverished communities into its affluent suburbs? In Becoming Whole (building on the best-selling When Helping Hurts), Brian Fikkert and Kelly M. Kapic look at the true sources of brokenness and poverty and uncover the surprising pathways to human flourishing, for poor and non-poor alike. Exposing the misconceptions of both Western Civilization and the Western church about the nature of God, human beings, and the world, they redefine success and offer new ways of achieving that success. Through biblical insights, scientific research, and practical experience, they show you how the good news of the kingdom of God reshapes our lives and our poverty alleviation ministries, moving everybody involved towards wholeness.

Synopsis A Field Guide to Becoming Whole by : Brian Fikkert
This is not a how-to manual… (it’s a field guide) We all want to know, "How can I help without hurting in this specific situation?" But there’s no one answer, and there’s definitely no short cuts, but there are key principles—or ministry design principles. Think of these like the rules an improvising actor learns—the principles are crucial—but the actor must decide how to put them into practice based on the complexities of the situation. This book contains and explicates 20 ministry design principles developed over decades of observing, studying, and experimenting. They’re in no way perfect, but they represent the very best ideas we have to date for how to do effective poverty alleviation in the kingdom of God.

Synopsis The Way to Become a Person in Heaven While Living by : Woo Myung
The ultimate answer to the questions about the reason and purpose of our existence. Why are we born into this world, and what do we live for? Teacher Woo Myung provides the answer to this deep question through his book, The reason why humans are born is to achieve human completion and to become Truth. It is not for the purpose of just making money or having a comfortable life. In other words, he is saying that one needs to know why he is born into this world and where he goes when he dies. One has to live the life of Truth, know the principle and meaning behind life and death. Life of Truth is the life of great liberation without any concerns or worries. It is the life lived following the flow of the universe just as nature does. It is natural for anyone to have a wishful thinking about living such a life. However, if you are not able to achieve it in reality, what use would it be? Teacher Woo Myung talks about ‘how to’ become a ‘person in Heaven’ in this reality that we are living in at the moment, ‘while living’. He talks about living the life of nature’s flow. This is possible because even though we are currently living with stress, having become enslaved to materials, fame, and desires, our original self is nothing like this. Which means that you can become a complete existence if you discard the self-centered human mind and recover your true nature. The ultimate happiness and life of Heaven can be achieved by becoming the mind of Truth while one is alive. The author earnestly convey throughout the book that Heaven is not a place one goes to after death, that one should go while living. Such a level of consciousness cannot be understood from within human conceptions or knowledges, not to mention one cannot reach that level. It can only be achieved through the process of emptying the mind, through self-reflection and enlightenment. With this method it is possible for everyone to achieve it regardless of their ethnicity, level of knowledge, or any other background. Perhaps, it was said that Truth is truly fair because this process that is taking place now is open to everyone. The life that all humankind has been yearning and dreaming for is given to all of us who are living at this moment, not just to a special someone in a distant future.
