Synopsis By His Scars by : Sharon Worrell Beshears
We often feel our scars are unsightly, and we try to hide them. In By His Scars, author Sharon Worrell Beshears helps you overcome your emotional scars and insecurities through scripture. She encourages you to learn from the many lessons your scars can teach you because each scar has a story to tell. Some speak of victory and triumph, while others remind you of painful moments you long not to relive. Emotional scars cannot be treated with ointment, and she advises you to give those scars to God. Through his word and his grace, you can face your giants, take control of these negative memories, and find victory. Inspired by the teachings of Jennie Allen, author of Get Out of Your Head, Beshears communicates that you have the power over your mind through scripture, prayer, and ultimate surrender to Christ.

Synopsis Owls Do Cry by : Janet Frame
First published in New Zealand in 1957, Owls Do Cry, was Janet Frame's second book and the first of her thirteen novels. Now approaching its 60th anniversary, it is securely a landmark in Frame's catalog and indeed a landmark of modernist literature. The novel spans twenty years in the Withers family, tracing Daphne's coming of age into a post–war New Zealand too narrow to know what to make of her. She is deemed mad, institutionalized, and made to undergo a risky lobotomy. Margaret Drabble calls Owls Do Cry "a song of survival"—it is Daphne's song of survival but also the author's: Frame was herself misdiagnosed with schizophrenia and scheduled for brain surgery. She was famously saved only when she won New Zealand's premier fiction prize. Frame was among the first major writers of the twentieth century to confront life in mental institutions and Owls Do Cry is important for this perspective. But it is equally valuable for its poetry, its incisive satire, and its acute social observations. A sensitively rendered portrait of childhood and adolescence and a testament to the power of imagination, this early novel is a first–rate example of Frame's powerful, lyric, and original prose.

“An action-packed, satisfying love story gets this supernatural series off to a rousing start.”—Kirkus Reviews Lori Adams puts a twist on paranormal romance with the first novel of The Soulkeepers, a series that blends ancient legends and new myths with an enchanting mix of thrills, humor, and high drama. When Sophia St. James learns that she’ll be moving from Los Angeles to a podunk town somewhere in Connecticut for her senior year of high school, she isn’t expecting an otherworldly encounter. But there is more to Haven Hurst than meets the eye: it’s home to a family of Guardian Angels, and she is the only one who can see them in spirit form. Sophia soon realizes she wants to see much more of Michael, an irresistible yet volatile Guardian who seems drawn to her too. As Michael battles his forbidden desire for the beautiful young newcomer, one of Hell’s most notorious Demon Knights arrives. Handsome and charismatic, Dante has come to claim the reincarnated soul of his lost lover trapped in Sophia. Cursed with the demon of Persuasion living inside him, Dante will use his seductive charms to lure Sophia into a dangerous game that ends with the kiss of death—unless Michael, who has captured Sophia’s heart, can now capture her soul. Synopsis Tactics of Hope in Latinx Children's and Young Adult Literature by : Jesus Montaño
This important study affirms that Latinx children and young adults are uniquely positioned to change the world. Using Gloria Anzaldúa’s theories of conocimiento as a critical lens, the authors examine several literary works including Side by Side / Lado a lado; They Call Me Güero; Land of the Cranes; Efrén Divided; and Gabi, a Girl in Pieces. Using these texts and others, Montaño and Postma-Montaño demonstrate how Latinx literature for young readers reveals the oppressions that affect the everyday lives of Latinx youth in order to destabilize the racist notions that inform them. Whether it is injustices in the agricultural fields, weaponization of deportation and deportability, or forms of exclusion based on gender, ethnicity, and race, the books in this study counter by imagining and then participating in social-justice activism that seeks to transform the world. Ultimately the lessons shared in these books will allow Latinx young people to lead us into a future where equity and belonging are as endemic as they currently are rare.

This, her latest collection of amazing true stories, focuses on the physical and emotional help people have experienced from unexplained or ethereal sources at times when they have been at their most vulnerable. With chapters such as 'Manifest a Miracle' and 'An Angel at My Bedside', the book tells of remarkable incidents where angels have appeared in hospital wards, at difficult births, during near-death experiences, and when someone actually dies, easing their journey from the corporeal to the spirit world.
