The Fiend possesses Doug Herman, a weak-willed nobody that possesses some hatred for Dragon. The Police try to enlist The Mace into the Police Force, who is also sought by The Vicious Circle.

Lurch regenerates and continues attacking Overlord! Meanwhile, one of The Nixed Men re-christens herself the She-Dragon and does battle with the son of SuperPatriot.

Lurch continues to attack Overlord and escapes, where he does battle with Dragon, Star, Rapture, and Vanguard, who takes him back to his ship. Alex Wilde meets a fireman named Dale Fisher amidst the turmoil, and Emily Schwartzblatt's son finally shows himself. Realizing that Frank Darling is still alive, Skullface finds and confronts him, and a small leech-like creature affixes itself to the back of Dragon's neck.

Overlord, who is in fact the aging crimeboss Antonio Seghetti, incinerates the SWAT team and skins the Dragon alive, who, with a single bullet, pierces Overlord's armour and kills him while defending his life. Dragon then returns to the Police Department.

After William and Rita announce their engagement, Alex reconciles with Chris, prompting She-Dragon to seek a cure for Bludgeon's monstrous condition amongst Johnny Redbeard's leftover machinery, in order to win back Chris' attention.

After Dragon learns that Nixon put on Overlord's amor to spy on Rita before it turned him evil, and that he had beaten and chained Super-Tough in order to coerce Mace's allegiance, he has the armour incinerated.

Dragon awakens next to the corpse of the young Damien Darklord in a burning lot. Much to his dismay, he discovers that Chicago is a veritable wasteland, inhabited by scavengers and strange mutated creatues, all of whom seem to want him dead. While flying over the city on the back of a blue bat-winged creature, Dragon realizes that the world was his creation - by killing Damien Darklord, and preventing him from travelling to the past, somehow everything changed. He eventually finds his way to his former home - only to discover a huge crater where it once stood.

An encounter with the strange creature called The Maxx, who has made friends with Horridus, sends both he and The Maxx for a bizarre trip through the Dragon's subconscious, or, his "outback." They are retreived once Maxx's companion, Sarah, interrupts them. While the villainous Brainiape tries to rob a bank without the consent of the Vicious Circle, he is stopped by their agent, Powerhouse. Dragon and Rapture both suspect each other of infidelity.

Dragon recovers from his injuries in the hospital, where he is then suddenly attacked by SuperPatriot. Dragon is able to fend off the attack, and protect his Nurse, Ann Stevens, who is the roommate of Phyllis Deeder.
