Synopsis Saudi eBay Project: eBusiness, eCommerce and eAuction in Saudi Arabia by : Thamer Alhazzaa
Project Report from the year 2014 in the subject Computer Science - Internet, New Technologies, grade: A, , course: Projects in Computer Information Systems Capstone Course, language: English, abstract: The business world is rapidly changing. The principal reason of this persistent change is, without a doubt, the technology. Not only theoretically, by adding new terminologies to the business Wiki and archiving numerous financial eBooks on Kindle libraries, but also virtually, by flourishing small businesses and terminating other top market value ones, the Internet, in particular, has redefined the word ‘business’. eCommerce “Electronic Commerce” and eAuction “Electronic Auction” are just examples of the effects of the Internet on modern businesses and corporations. There are many reasons why both individuals and organizations conduct their businesses online these days. From an individual’s perspective, convenience is one important reason why a college student who doesn’t have a car may consider Amazon over Wal-Mart to purchase a new 55-inch T.V. Another reason is the ability to make comparisons among a wide range of similar products and competitor merchants. On the other hand, organizations have found a new market on the Internet. In fact, the competition has compelled them to find new opportunities online. For this project, I have researched and investigated the reasons behind the slow eBusiness development in Saudi Arabia. Since an eGovernment program, Yesser Program, has already been started in Saudi Arabia, my concentration has been on the eCommerce portion and specifically on the eAuction topic to analyze whether or not there is an opportunity to start a Saudi version of eBay.

Synopsis Private Governance by : Edward Peter Stringham
From the first stock markets of Amsterdam,London, and New York to the billions of electronic commerce transactions today, privately produced and enforced economic regulations are more common, more effective, and more promising than commonly considered. In Private Governance, prominent economist Edward Stringham presents case studies of the various forms of private enforcement, self-governance, or self-regulation among private groups or individuals that fill a void that government enforcement cannot. Through analytical narratives the book provides a close examination of the world's first stock markets, key elements of which were unenforceable by law; the community of Celebration, Florida, and other private communities that show how public goods can be bundled with land and provided more effectively; and the millions of credit-card transactions that occur daily and are regulated by private governance. Private Governance ultimately argues that while potential problems of private governance, such as fraud, are pervasive, so are the solutions it presents, and that much of what is orderly in the economy can be attributed to private groups and individuals. With meticulous research, Stringham demonstrates that private governance is a far more common source of order than most people realize, and that private parties have incentives to devise different mechanisms for eliminating unwanted behavior. Private Governance documents numerous examples of private order throughout history to illustrate how private governance is more resilient to internal and external pressure than is commonly believed. Stringham discusses why private governance has economic and social advantages over relying on government regulations and laws, and explores the different mechanisms that enable private governance, including sorting, reputation, assurance, and other bonding mechanisms. Challenging and rigorously-written, Private Governance will make a compelling read for those with an interest in economics, political philosophy, and the history of current Wall Street regulations.

Synopsis Business Driven Information Systems by : Paige Baltzan
"The Baltzan and Phillips approach in Business Driven Information Systems discusses various business initiatives first and how technology supports those initiatives second. The premise for this unique approach is that business initiatives drive technology choices in a corporation. Therefore, every discussion addresses the business needs first and addresses the technology that supports those needs second. This approach takes the difficult and often intangible MIS concepts, brings them down to the student's level, and applies them using a hands-on approach to reinforce the concepts. BDIS provides the foundation that will enable students to achieve excellence in business, whether they major in operations management, manufacturing, sales, marketing, etc. BDIS is designed to give students the ability to understand how information technology can be a point of strength in an organization."--Publisher's website.

Synopsis New Aspects of Quantity Surveying Practice by : Duncan Cartlidge
In this fourth edition of New Aspects of Quantity Surveying Practice, renowned quantity surveying author Duncan Cartlidge reviews the history of the quantity surveyor, examines and reflects on the state of current practice with a concentration on new and innovative practice, and attempts to predict the future direction of quantity surveying practice in the UK and worldwide. The book champions the adaptability and flexibility of the quantity surveyor, whilst covering the hot topics which have emerged since the previous edition’s publication, including: the RICS ‘Futures’ publication; Building Information Modelling (BIM); mergers and acquisitions; a more informed and critical evaluation of the NRM; greater discussion of ethics to reflect on the renewed industry interest; and a new chapter on Dispute Resolution. As these issues create waves throughout the industry whilst it continues its global growth in emerging markets, such reflections on QS practice are now more important than ever.
