Synopsis ROK-Japan Security Cooperation in a Turbulent Strategic Environment by : Chung Kyung-young
China's Sino-centrism and expansionism, the U.S. America First policy, Russia's Neo-Eastern policy and North Korea's incessant adventurism pose ongoing security challenges to the Northeast Asian region. Within this turbulent global and regional strategic environment, ROK-Japan security cooperation is essential to the stability and peace in the Western Pacific, the Korean Peninsula, and the world as a whole. But there is still an onslaught of issues complicating security cooperation between the two countries, including historical legacies such as the comfort women issue, territorial disputes, mutual distrust, ambivalent national interests, and distorted political and social relations. Despite these difficulties, ROK-Japan can improve military-military cooperation by the professionalism of each national defense. This paper aims to examine the current realities of security and military cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Japan in the ever-changing turbulent strategic environment of the 21st century. It also works to explore potential strategies and policies so as to enhance cooperative security relations between the two countries.

Synopsis Japan's Strategic Challenges in a Changing Regional Environment by : Purnendra Jain
Japan faces significant challenges in both traditional and non-traditional areas of national security policy as the economic resurgence of China and the loss of US hegemonic clout significantly transform the strategic landscape of the Asia-Pacific region. How is Japan coping with this new global and regional politico-security environment? What strategic moves has it taken to best position itself for the future to maximize its global and regional influence? More importantly, how is Japan perceived within the region by traditionally close regional partners such as the US and Australia, by supporters in Southeast Asia, and by new competitors -- most prominently China and India? What international role do these nations wish Japan to play? In this comprehensive volume, these crucial questions are explored in-depth by a group of scholars both distinguished and diverse.

Synopsis Global Trends 2040 by : National Intelligence Council
"The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic marks the most significant, singular global disruption since World War II, with health, economic, political, and security implications that will ripple for years to come." -Global Trends 2040 (2021) Global Trends 2040-A More Contested World (2021), released by the US National Intelligence Council, is the latest report in its series of reports starting in 1997 about megatrends and the world's future. This report, strongly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, paints a bleak picture of the future and describes a contested, fragmented and turbulent world. It specifically discusses the four main trends that will shape tomorrow's world: - Demographics-by 2040, 1.4 billion people will be added mostly in Africa and South Asia. - Economics-increased government debt and concentrated economic power will escalate problems for the poor and middleclass. - Climate-a hotter world will increase water, food, and health insecurity. - Technology-the emergence of new technologies could both solve and cause problems for human life. Students of trends, policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics, journalists and anyone eager for a glimpse into the next decades, will find this report, with colored graphs, essential reading.

Synopsis Confronting Security Challenges on the Korean Peninsula by : Marine Corps Press
The Korean Peninsula was and is in a state of flux.More than 60 years after the war that left the country divided, the policies and unpredictability of the North Korean regime, in conjunction with the U.S. alliance with South Korea and the involvement of China in the area, leave the situation there one of the most capricious on the globe. Confronting Security Challenges on the Korean Peninsula presents the opinions from experts on the subject matter from the policy, military, and academic communities. Drawn from talks at a conference in September 2010 at Marine Corps University, the papers explore the enduring security challenges, the state of existing political and military relationships, the economic implications of unification, and the human rights concerns within North and South Korea. They also reiterate the importance for the broader East Asia region of peaceful resolution of the Korean issues.

Synopsis EU–Korea Security Relations by : Nicola Casarini
This book provides an original examination of current European Union (EU)–Republic of Korea (ROK) security relations. It brings together analysis and original material on relations in the fields of Nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, Cybersecurity and data-protection, Space policy and technology, and Preventive diplomacy and crisis management. These represent areas of particular interest to examine the extent to which the EU and ROK are able to successfully or otherwise cooperate. Relations between the EU and the ROK have been growing in quantity and quality over recent years. Alongside the economic dimension, the political and security elements of the relationship have shown promise for further collaboration between the two sides, not least within the context of North Korea’s nuclear threat and East Asia’s wider evolving security environment. All contributors are leading experts in their respective fields and each chapter is co-authored by a European and Korean expert for a balanced assessment. The volume will be essential reading for students, scholars and policy-makers interested in EU–Korea relations, EU foreign policy and security, Area studies, and, more broadly to EU politics studies, security studies, and international relations.

Synopsis Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Green Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (GEESD2022) by : X. Zhang
With the general acknowledgement that climate change constitutes an existential threat to both mankind and to the planet, the quest for more sustainable and environmentally-friendly ways of developing and maintaining human civilizations has become ever more important in recent years. This book presents the proceedings of GEESD2022, the 3rd International Conference on Green Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development. Due to continuing travel restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held as a hybrid event, part face-to-face in Beijing, China, and partly online via Zoom, on 29 June 2022. The 141 papers included here were selected after a rigorous 6-month process of evaluation and peer-review from the more than 300 submissions received, and are grouped into 7 sections: energy system and smart control; sustainable and green energy; environmental modeling and simulation; environmental science and pollution research; ecology and rural environment; building and environment; and water and mineral resources. The book provides an overview of the most up-to-date findings and technologies current in green energy, environment and sustainable development today, and will be of interest to all those working in the field.
