Synopsis Rocks Across the Pond by : Richard Verlander
Perspectives on the journey of a Baseball Parent - From Little League, to the World Series, and everything in-between. From the start in 1989 as parents of then 6 year old Justin Verlander and later his younger brother Ben, and with little background or experience in any type of organised sports ourselves, we had no idea about the turn our lives were about to take when a neighbour from across the street suggested that our son Justin should sign up for Little League Baseball. In our wildest dreams we never would have imagined that 20 years later we would be receiving the Little League Parents of the Year Award in Willamsport, Pennsylvania. This is an honour bestowed annually on the parents of major league stars that played Little League Baseball. After over two decades spent raising two sons who have experienced great success both on and off the field, the term Baseball is Life has become much more than a cliche for the Verlander family. We have been touched by many life changing events that we were fortunate to experience, but often unprepared to handle.Looking back we were often blessed to be surrounded by many people who helped us by providing valuable insight in making decisions and dealing with situations that enabled us to put our boys in the best possible atmosphere to grow and develop their potential; both as athletes and young men. Other times we were just lucky. It was not always clear, that's for sure. This book was written in hopes that other parents raising young athletes can gain something from our experience and look back as we have, knowing that Baseball is a great metaphor for life and that lessons learned last a lifetime.

Synopsis Believe by : Jan Walters
“The author’s writing propels the reader forward in a gripping tale from start to finish. Although, Ann and Patrick’s story is at the forefront, other characters such as Malcolm, are equally interesting. Readers who are not bothered by the sexual explicitness of modern romance writing and who enjoy a historical setting combined with a touch of fantasy should find Walters’ book well worth reading.” —Reviewed by John E. Roper, US Review of Books “Traveling back in time to find everlasting love is a fairly well-used plot device in the romance genre. Several things stand out in Believe that make it different from other time travel romance books including the manner in which Ann travels back.” —Review by San Francisco Book Review “The element of a sociopathic stalker adds a level of mystery and suspense, as well as provides a catalyst to advance the romance between Ann and Patrick. Believe is a good historical romance with a bit of fantasy and suspense thrown in, and will appeal to traditionalists of the romance genre.” — San Francisco Book Review The moment Ann Roberts —a divorced mother of two grown children—spots the decrepit-looking bookstore, her life is turned upside down. Having a kinship with the past and unable to deny the allure of an antique bookstore, Ann ventures inside. She feels compelled to purchase an old album—titled Lady O’Neil’s Memoirs—that coincidentally carries her great-grandmother’s surname and chronicles the history of a prominent English family in the nineteenth century. Soon, her nights become haunted with dreams of the handsome man, Patrick O’Neil, pictured in the book. Their love is tested as they attempt to outwit fate that threatens to return Ann to the twentieth-first century.

Synopsis Embrace by : Rose La Rose
Embrace: The Child Within By: Rose La Rose Embrace the Child Within tells the story of four-year-old Graci, a lively, precocious child who witnesses a crime that causes her to “leave herself” and dissociate. The book opens with events that throw her into a lengthy tailspin of dissociation and keep her in a constant state of survival mode, not knowing who she is for over three decades. The secret of the crime is the driving force in the story that explores how this trauma silenced her and took her identity away. Then, disowned and abandoned by her family at age nineteen, Graci embarks on a long, arduous journey, unaware of her dissociation. Fueled with tenacity, resilience, and the ever-burgeoning self, she takes on the battle to discover herself all alone in the world. As a result of her trauma, Graci faces many struggles that she must overcome even when she goes through life not knowing who she really is. Eventually the truth in its entirety unfolds for Graci, except for one missing piece that proves key for helping to resolve her dissociation. No matter how old a crime is, it's never too late to tell the truth.

Synopsis The Man Who Lived with a Giant by : Alana Fletcher
Our parents always taught us well. They told us to look on the good side of life and to accept what has to happen. The Man Who Lived with a Giant is a collection of traditional and personal stories told by Johnny Neyelle, a Dene Elder from Déline, Northwest Territories. Johnny used storytelling to teach Dene youth and others to understand and celebrate Dene traditions and knowledge. Johnny’s voice makes his stories accessible to readers young and old, and his wisdom reinforces the right way to live: in harmony with people and places. Storytelling forms the core of Dene knowledge-keeping, making this a vital book for Dene people of today and tomorrow, researchers working with Indigenous cultures and oral histories, and all those dedicated to preserving Elders’ stories.
