Synopsis Receiver, Bearer, and Giver of God’s Spirit by : Leopoldo A. Sánchez
What difference does the Spirit make in the life of Jesus and in our lives? Answering that question without doing away with the divine dignity of Christ has been a challenge in the distant and recent past. But this need not be the case. The current work is a contribution to the growing field of Spirit Christology, which seeks to enrich the classic Logos Christology of the ecumenical Councils with a Spirit-oriented trajectory. Sanchez tests the productivity of a Spirit Christology as a theological lens for assessing the main events of Jesus' life and mission, accounts of the atonement, the significance of the incarnation, the concepts of person and relation, and models of the Trinity. Seeing Christ as the privileged locus of the Spirit also has implications for the church's life in the Spirit. Sanchez shows how a Spirit Christology fosters Christian practices such as proclamation, prayer, and sanctification. Among the highlights of this work the reader will note the author's assessment of early church fathers' readings of the place of the Spirit in the anointing of Jesus, a constructive proposal towards the complementarity of Logos and Spirit Christologies, ecumenical engagement with various theological traditions in the East and the West, and the first constructive assessment of the field informed by the Lutheran tradition.

Synopsis Introduction to Theology (Foundations for Spirit-Filled Christianity) by : Frank D. Macchia
This systematic theology textbook introduces students to the complexity and beauty of theology as a pursuit of the global church today. It views theology as an ongoing conversation with many voices about the wonders of God that is faithful to Scripture but is also attentive to the wisdom of tradition and the relevance of context. The book first summarizes the nature and necessity of theological thinking and discusses theological method. Chapters then unfold in creedal order through the various regions of Christian teaching, with units on revelation, God, creation and providence, Christology, pneumatology, ecclesiology, anthropology, soteriology, and eschatology. This book is part of a new series that reflects the changing face of global Christianity. Series volumes are written by leading Pentecostal/Charismatic scholars who highlight themes of interest to Pentecostal/Charismatic students; however, the books are respectful, appreciative, and inclusive of a variety of church families and traditions. Series editors are Jerry Ireland, Paul W. Lewis, and Frank D. Macchia.

Synopsis Sculptor Spirit by : Leopoldo A. Sànchez M.
Like the work of an artist who molds a lump of clay, the Spirit's sanctifying work lies in shaping people into the image of Christ. Avoiding either a "Spirit-only" or a "Spirit-void" theology, Leopoldo Sánchez carefully crafts a Spirit Christology, which considers the role of God's Spirit in the life and mission of Jesus and leads to five distinct models of sanctification that can help Christians discern how the Spirit is at work in our lives.

Synopsis Life in the Spirit by : Andrea D Snavely
What would the church look like if Christians saw their lives as constituted by the Spirit's presence to live like Jesus lived? In a time when being 'led by the Spirit' is defined more by achieving the 'American Dream' than by Jesus' life, answeringthis question rightly seems all the more critical for the church to survive in a culture increasingly hostile to Christianity. Building upon the work of post-Constantinians John Howard Yoder and Stanley Hauerwas and upon the Trinitarian Spirit-Christology of Leopoldo Sanchez, this account of the Christian life provides a framework for seeing one's Christian life as one transformed by the Spirit to live in the resurrection reality of Jesus' sonship with the Father in the Spirit. In the process, one will discover that, for Jesus, being led by the Spirit meant trusting his Father to the point of death on a cross, trusting God to resurrect him even if he did not save him. Should it mean the same for Christians today? If so, this would require the church to reimagine its ministries for the Spirit to work repentance and faith rather than simple agreement. For Christians living in the Spirit, their lives might look very different.

Synopsis Kingdom Come: An Eschatological Third Article Ecclesiology by : Gregory J. Liston
Engaging eschatology as a pivotal vantage point, this book utilizes the methodology of Third Article Theology to examine the intrinsically pneumatological relationship between the Church and the coming kingdom. The overarching thesis developed is that exploring the relationship between Church and kingdom through the lens of the Spirit enables the construction of a nuanced account of the Church's ongoing transformation, an eschatological Third Article Ecclesiology. The Church, as pictured in this volume, is the proleptic anticipation of the coming kingdom. Through enabling Christ's kingly presence, the Spirit draws back to the present Church characteristics of the coming kingdom. This enriches, influences, and transforms the present Church towards its intended telos.

Synopsis T&T Clark Introduction to Spirit Christology by : Leopoldo A. Sánchez M.
This textbook assists students, teachers, and scholars in understanding and articulating major themes and issues arising from Spirit Christology, an interdisciplinary and international area of study. In the last half century, Spirit Christology has developed into a critical and productive theological framework for reading Scripture, mining the implications of Christ's person and work, thinking about God, and laying out the shape of the Spirit's works in the life of the church and in the world. Highlighting voices from many countries and theological traditions, the book chapters are structured to show how various authors engaging Spirit Christology have contributed compelling answers to critical questions raised in biblical studies, church history, systematic theology, and practical theology. Topics include the role of the Spirit of God in the gospels' descriptions of Jesus, the place of the anointing of Jesus in the history of the church, the relationship between Logos (two-natures) and Spirit Christologies in contemporary theology, and the productivity of Spirit Christology as a lens for reflecting on and fostering spiritual practices/disciplines and ethical engagement in the world. This textbook offers pedagogical features: - Study questions for discussion - Glossary of terms

Synopsis Mutual Hierarchy by : Jeffrey A. Dukeman
Social Trinitarians have not been shy about positing community as the chief ontological category for Trinitarian discourse. As beneficial as this is, social Trinitarians have typically been less helpful in advocating the sort of human community for the Trinitarian analogy that most people would probably find desirable. To use the example of a marriage, one has often been forced to choose between a fully egalitarian view, where the spouses supposedly have no differences from each other, and a hierarchical view where a husband exercises a unilateral and oppressive power over his wife. This book advocates a third alternative for the sort of community present in the Trinity. Just as genuine teamwork is generally desirable in various human communities, the divine persons have a mutual hierarchy relationship with each other. Here each divine person has a unique hierarchy over the others, and yet each uses this hierarchy to serve the others in a dignified way. Recognizing this mutual hierarchy of the divine persons fosters a view of the Trinity that is maximally social, in keeping with the name "social Trinitarianism." In proceeding thus, the book attempts to, in a unique way, show the harmony between systematic theology, exegesis, and practice.

Synopsis Tongues of Fire by : Frank D. Macchia
In this volume, Frank Macchia offers a systematic theology written with Christ's outpouring of the Holy Spirit from the heavenly Father at Pentecost as its dominant motif. Christ's death and resurrection provide for our reconciliation with God and make way for the Spirit, for the divine overflowing onto all flesh. The church is born in the grace of that overflowing. From the abundance of this divine self-giving spring forth many different tongues aflame with the church's praise and witness. This systematic theology seeks to join and further guide these tongues in their diverse contexts by reflecting in a coherent fashion across the spectrum of Christian doctrine. The first three chapters offer an extensive treatment of modern approaches to theology. Subsequent chapters explore all of the major topics of importance to theology historically. This is theology written from a Pentecostal interest, yet seeking to speak beyond it to a larger ecumenical horizon.
