Synopsis Rascals in Paradise by : James A. Michener
In a thrilling collection of nonfiction adventure stories, James A. Michener returns to the most dazzling place on Earth: the islands that inspired Tales of the South Pacific. Co-written with A. Grove Day, Rascals in Paradise offers portraits of ten scandalous men and women, some infamous and some overlooked, including Sam Comstock, a mutinous sailor whose delusions of grandeur became a nightmare; Will Mariner, a golden-haired youth who used his charm to win over his captors; and William Bligh, the notorious HMS Bounty captain who may not have been the monster history remembers him as. From lifelong buccaneers to lapsed noblemen, in Michener and Day’s capable hands these rogues become the stuff of legend. Praise for Rascals in Paradise “The best book about those far-scattered islands that has appeared in a long time . . . a portfolio of rare and ruthless personalities that is calculated to make the curliest hair stand straight on end.”—The New York Times “[Combines] research and scholarship (A. Grove Day was a professor at the University of Hawaii) with a gift for spinning a yarn and depicting character (Michener, journalist and novelist, needs no introduction).”—Kirkus Reviews

Synopsis The Meerkats Of Summer Farm by : Jayne Collier
The Colliers are a pretty normal family: mum, dad, two kids, two dogs and two cats ... Oh, and a few wallabies, two lemurs, several owls, Ringo the bad-tempered crane and two cheeky, hand-reared meerkats named Wren and Rascal. THE MEERKATS OF SUMMER FARM is the remarkable story of a year at Axe Valley Bird and Animal Park, following the birth of the adorable young kits. In her charming and often hilarious memoir, Jayne Collier describes how these two playful and ever-curious creatures became the park's star attraction and - in spite of permanent damage to her kitchen floor and occasional (subterranean) breaks for freedom - found a permanent place in the family's heart.

When seven-year-old Pollywina Grubble's parents go away for a week, Great Aunt Mabel comes to babysit. Polly can't wait for Auntie to meet her best friend, Gertie. But when Auntie finds out that Polly and Gertie have chewed filthy bubble-gum they collected from the pavement, she bans them from playing together.Polly's miserable enough without having to eat the disgusting dinner that Auntie's cooked. And if she throws it in the bin, she'll be in even more trouble. There's only one solution for Polly. She waits until Aunties not looking, then stuffs the yucky food in-between the clean sheets in the linen cupboard. But Auntie soon discovers the filthy mess and sends Polly to bed with no supper. The next morning, Polly sneaks off to Gertie's house, and the two rascals head off for a joyride on Gertie's new bicycle. Polly sits in the basket attached to the handlebars, but as they go down a hill, Gertie pedals way too fast. Polly yells at her to stop, but Gertie never listens to anybody and ends up running their headmistress off the footpath. The headmistress is just as mean as Auntie, and now the two rascals are in even bigger trouble.
