The longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119, is about the Bible itself. In his commentary on Psalm 119 Pastor Mott shows how the Bible is relevant for every need of life. No matter what situation or emotion you may be experiencing in your life, there is a verse in Psalm 119 that speaks to it. In this psalm you will find information relating to things historical, political, social, psychological, soteriological, and eschatological. The comprehensiveness of Psalm 119 is itself a wonder. Only God could inspire such a psalm.

The impetus for a more careful study of the 119th Psalm came thirty years ago when my first pastor-teacher-friend reached a series of messages on this multifaceted gem from God's Word. Ever since that time, the Lord has providentially brought into my life occasions for plumbing the depths of its 176 verses. Some of these avenues of Divine confrontation and comfort have included two life-threatening thoracic surgeries accompanied by discomforting hospital stays for a total of nearly eight months, the periodic pangs of personal criticisms and attacks, and the many pressures which attend a commitment to the ministry of ""the whole counsel of God."" Consequently, there have been ample opportunities to empathize deeply with the psalmist when he said, ""It was good for me that I was afflicted, in order that I might learn Your statutes"" (v. 71). For the first time since 1611, when the Authorized Version of the King James Bible was completed, the complete list of the prayers of the Bible are available together and categorized. The Lords Prayers and Gods Book of Prayers both contain all the prayers of the Bible. The Lords Prayers lists them in biblical sequence, with an exhaustive concordance of major words or phrases, while Gods Book of Prayers separates each into nine categories for convenient reading. Both versions have some elementary analysis of all the prayers for better understanding of the whole of the prayers in Scripture, including the most common words in biblical praying. These volumes will help you to easily be able to pray Gods Own Words! Most of us already use The Lords Prayer, so why not use all of The Lords Prayers? See all of His Prayers inside.

Despite extensive study of the poetic features of Psalm 119, the conceptions it advocates and its contribution to developing Judaism have not been well understood; indeed some scholars have dismissed the psalm as containing little more than wearisome repetition. Reynolds distinguishes between the psalmist and the speaker within the psalm. The psalmist portrays the speaker as an exemplary Torah student and thereby promotes the contemplation of Torah as a facet of ethical instruction. Using this new perspective, Reynolds contributes a fresh and coherent understanding of the ideas in Psalm 119. He explains the function of its length and highlights its emphasis on Torah study that became axiomatic in Rabbinic Judaism.
