A two volume collection of mathematical papers on algebra and mathematics in honor of famed Russian mathematician, I.M. Vinogradov.

This book is a collection of articles written in memory of Boris Dubrovin (1950–2019). The authors express their admiration for his remarkable personality and for the contributions he made to mathematical physics. For many of the authors, Dubrovin was a friend, colleague, inspiring mentor, and teacher. The contributions to this collection of papers are split into two parts: “Integrable Systems” and “Quantum Theories and Algebraic Geometry”, reflecting the areas of main scientific interests of Dubrovin. Chronologically, these interests may be divided into several parts: integrable systems, integrable systems of hydrodynamic type, WDVV equations (Frobenius manifolds), isomonodromy equations (flat connections), and quantum cohomology. The articles included in the first part are more or less directly devoted to these areas (primarily with the first three listed above). The second part contains articles on quantum theories and algebraic geometry and is less directly connected with Dubrovin's early interests.

This book contains papers by participants in two seminars, one on martingales and statistics of stochastic processes, and one on sequential analysis, both of which were held at the Steklov Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The papers develop the concepts of martingales and seminmartingales and stochastic calculus for them, as well as their applications in statistics and control of stochastic processes. The class of semimartingales - that is, the class of all processes which can be represented as a sum of a martingale and a process with bounded variation - is rather large. It contains such important processes as Brownian motion, Poisson processes, solutions of stochastic differential equations, and others. The papers treat theoretical aspects of statistics of stochastic processes as well as specific models of stochastic processes from the standpoint of their statistics and control. The collection is intended for undergraduate and graduate students and researchers in probability theory and mathematical statistics.

This book contains an exposition of several results related with direct and converse theorems in the theory of approximation by algebraic polynomials in a finite interval. In addition, some facts concerning trigonometric approximation that are necessary for motivation and comparisons are included. The selection of papers that are referenced and discussed document some trends in polynomial approximation from the 1950s to the present day.

This collection of historical research studies covers the evolution of technology as knowledge, the emergence of an autonomous engineering science in the Industrial Age, the idea of scientific managment of production and operation systems, and the interaction between mathematical models and technological concepts. The book is published with the support of the UNESCO Venice Office - Regional Office for Science & Technology in Europe as an activity of the Project: The evolution of events, concepts and models in engineering systems.
