Synopsis Port Planning and Management Simulation by : Wenyuan Wang

Port Planning and Management Simulation examines port planning simulation applications, showing how they supports better port decision-making. Using a clear organizational format based on actual port system structure and operation processes, the book provides practical and theoretical insights on port planning and management. The book describes the water, land, collecting and distributing components of the port system, focusing on management, development, and risk mitigation. It examines the key challenges based on discrete system simulation theory that is less affected by local or national regulations. It compares various simulation scenarios for optimal port operational strategy. It quantifies port emissions, analyzes the impact of different reduction strategies, and presents operational strategies for green port planning developmentmand management. Port Planning and Management Simulation provides guidance for carrying out deep analysis in a complex and dynamic system, providing an integrated solution framework based on simulation techniques for improving efficiency and cost savings of the port system. - Bridges the gaps between theory, practice and policy - Comprehensive, practical and multidisciplinary content - Case Studies

Synopsis Handbook of Terminal Planning by : Jürgen W. Böse

Container Terminals (CT) operate as central nodes in worldwide hub-and-spoke networks and link ocean-going vessels with smaller feeder vessels as well as with inbound and outbound hinterland transportation systems using road, rail, or inland waterways. The volume of transcontinental container flows has gained appreciably over the last five decades -- throughput figures of CT reached new records, frequently with double-digit annual growth rates. Stimulated by throughput requirements and stronger competition between terminals settled in the same region or serving a similar hinterland, respectively, cost efficiency and throughput capabilities become more and more important. Nowadays, both terminal capacity and costs have to be regarded as key indicators for CT competitiveness. In respect of this steady growth, this handbook focuses on planning activities being aimed at “order of magnitude improvements” in terminal performance and economic viability. On the one hand the book is intended to provide readership with technological and organizational CT basics for strategic planning. On the other hand this book offers methodical assistance for fundamental dimensioning of CT in terms of 'technique', 'organization' or 'man'. The former primarily considers comprehensive information about container handling technologies representing the state of the art for present terminal operations, while the latter refers to methodological support comprising in particular quantitative solutions and modeling techniques for strategic terminal decisions as well as straightforward design guidelines. The handbook includes an introductory contribution which gives an overview of strategic planning problems at CT and introduces the contributions of the volume with regard to their relationship in this field. Moreover, each paper contains a section or paragraph that describes the impact of findings investigated by the author(s) for problem-solving in long-term planning of CT (as an application domain). The handbook intends to provide solutions and insights that are valuable for both practitioners in industry who need effective planning approaches to overcome problems and weaknesses in terminal design/development and researchers who would like to inform themselves about the state of the art in methodology of strategic terminal planning or be inspired by new ideas. That is to say, the handbook is addressed to terminal planners in practice as well as to students of maritime courses of study and (application oriented) researchers in the maritime field.

Synopsis Smart Ports by : Weijian Mi

This book demonstrates the concept of ecological system of the smart ports. The innovation is emphasized as the essence of the ecological system as well as the prerequisite and foundation of sustainable development of smart ports. The main supporting technologies of smart ports, including cyber-physical system, middle-office system, blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine vision, AR/VR, system simulation and emulation, digital monitoring and diagnosis, etc., are introduced with concepts and development descriptions as well as practical application cases. It could be used as demonstration and reference for the administrative staff, engineers and technicians as well as researchers in construction and operation of smart ports.

Synopsis The Next Step: Advanced Medical Coding and Auditing, 2013 Edition by : Carol J. Buck

Learning advanced medical coding concepts is easy with Carol J. Buck's proven, step-by-step method! The Next Step: Advanced Medical Coding and Auditing, 2013 Edition provides an in-depth understanding of physician-based medical coding and coding services such as medical visits, diagnostic testing and interpretation, treatments, surgeries, and anesthesia. Patient cases reflect actual medical records - with personal details changed or removed - and give you real-world experience coding from physical documentation with advanced material. Enhance your clinical decision-making skills and learn to confidently pull the right information from documents, select the right codes, determine the correct sequencing of those codes, properly audit cases, and prepare for the transition to ICD-10-CM with the help of Carol J. Buck! Auditing cases in every chapter offer realistic experience with auditing coded reports. UNIQUE! Evaluation and Management (E/M) Audit Forms, developed to determine the correct E/M codes, simplify the coding process and help you ensure accuracy. Dual Coding prepares you for the switch to ICD-10 by accompanying all ICD-9 answers with corresponding codes from ICD-10-CM. Realistic patient cases simulate the professional coding experience by using actual medical records (with personal patient details changed or removed), allowing you to practice coding with advanced material. UNIQUE! Netter anatomy plates in each chapter help you understand anatomy and how it affects coding. From the Trenches boxes in each chapter highlight real-life medical coders and provide practical tips, advice, and encouragement. More than 175 illustrations and a full-color design make advanced concepts more accessible and visually engaging.
