Synopsis Paisley by : Maggie Smith
Paisley has been sitting on the shelf at Big & Little Toys too long. He’s seen other animals come and go, but somehow he’s never found his perfect match. And so, taking matters into his own hands, Paisley sets off on a quest to find the special someone he knows is out there for him. He braves many perils in his search, but his intrepid determination is rewarded when he finds the girl of his dreams at last. Well, that’s the way Paisley tells the story. Maggie Smith’s wonderfully warm and touchable pictures tell a different tale. In truth, Paisley is mistakenly thrown away, tossed about, and then left in the lost and found at Lolly’s Laundry, where a curious little girl happily discovers him. But when Pearl and Paisley get together, it doesn’t matter who found who—they are a perfect match. Children will laugh at Paisley’s almost-true telling of his tale and will readily understand his need to feel like he’s in control. Sure to melt your heart, this is a love story that celebrates the power of a positive outlook.

Synopsis Where the Light Gets In by : Kimberly Williams-Paisley
“The relationship between a mother and daughter is one of the most complicated and meaningful there is. Kimberly Williams-Paisley writes about her own with grace, truth, and beauty as she shares her journey back to her mother in the wake of a devastating illness.” —Brooke Shields Many know Kimberly Williams-Paisley as the bride in the popular Steve Martin remakes of the Father of the Bride movies, the calculating Peggy Kenter on Nashville, or the wife of country music artist, Brad Paisley. But behind the scenes, Kim was dealing with a tragic secret: her mother, Linda, was suffering from a rare form of dementia that slowly crippled her ability to talk, write and eventually recognize people in her own family. Where the Light Gets In tells the full story of Linda’s illness—called primary progressive aphasia—from her early-onset diagnosis at the age of 62 through the present day. Kim draws a candid picture of the ways her family reacted for better and worse, and how she, her father and two siblings educated themselves, tried to let go of shame and secrecy, made mistakes, and found unexpected humor and grace in the midst of suffering. Ultimately the bonds of family were strengthened, and Kim learned ways to love and accept the woman her mother became. With a moving foreword by actor and advocate Michael J. Fox, Where the Light Gets In is a heartwarming tribute to the often fragile yet unbreakable relationships we have with our mothers.

Synopsis Paisley Patterns by : Valerie Reilly
"One of the most enduring motifs that man has ever devised is that known to the English speaking world as the Paisley Pattern. Originating in pre-historic times as a representative plant form, it has been in constant use, in one way or another, for over 2000 years. When introduced into Europe late in the eighteenth century, the pattern was seen as something exotic and was soon enthusiastically copied by textile manufacturers in Britain and France. The shawls, which were the principle garments to be decorated with the motif, remained an essential part of a woman's wardrobe for virtually a century, adapting in size and shape as each new dress fashion came along. During that time millions of shawls were produced, in thousands of different varieties. The town of Paisley was the largest producer of the shawls and although the industry no longer dominates, the fame of the Paisley Pattern lives on. The Paisley Museum, established in 1871, has over the years built up an enormous collection of shawls for display and research purposes. Just as important as the shawls themselves, however, are the manufacturers' original pattern books, which contain large numbers of examples of the various stages in producing a design for a shawl. One hundred and fifty of the best pieces of artwork have been selected and have been faithfully reproduced in this lavishly illustrated volume. Dates of the designs and historical information have been included wherever possible, making the book important for both textile historians and students of design. With the current revival of fashionable interest in both the pattern and the shawl itself, the contents of the book will surely provide a vital source of inspiration for yet more variations of this exquisite and enduring design."--Provided by publisher

Synopsis Nightingale by : Paisley Rekdal
Nightingale is a book about change. This collection radically rewrites and contemporizes many of the myths central to Ovid’s epic, The Metamorphoses, Rekdal’s characters changed not by divine intervention but by both ordinary and extraordinary human events. In Nightingale, a mother undergoes cancer treatments at the same time her daughter transitions into a son; a woman comes to painful terms with her new sexual life after becoming quadriplegic; a photographer wonders whether her art is to blame for her son’s sudden illness; and a widow falls in love with her dead husband’s dog. At the same time, however, the book includes more intimate lyrics that explore personal transformation, culminating in a series of connected poems that trace the continuing effects of sexual violence and rape on survivors. Nightingale updates many of Ovid’s subjects while remaining true to the Roman epic’s tropes of violence, dismemberment, silence, and fragmentation. Is change a physical or a spiritual act? Is transformation punishment or reward, reversible or permanent? Does metamorphosis literalize our essential traits, or change us into something utterly new? Nightingale investigates these themes, while considering the roles that pain, violence, art, and voicelessness all play in the changeable selves we present to the world.
