Synopsis Outlines of Metaphysic by : Hermann Lotze

Excerpt from Outlines of Metaphysic: Dictated Portions of the Lectures of Hermann Lotze It affords me, therefore, the pleasure that comes from the hope of being useful to a wide circle of persons, to announce that I have arranged to trans late and edit several, if not all, of those little books called 'outlines' which have been given to the pub lic in Germany since the death of their' lamented author. These 'outlines' cover the entire ground of Lotze's mature teaching in the University upon the subjects of Logic, Metaphysic, Philosophy of Nature, Psychology, festhetics, Moral Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and History 'of German Philosophy since Kant. A word of explanation as to the origin of these books will suffice to assure the reader that he is to be put into com munication with the thoughts of this philosopher in a way which he can trust both as to substance and form of expressmn. The German from which the translations are to be made consists of the dic tated portions of his latest lectures (at Gottingen. Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Kant by :

Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) is a towering figure of modern Western philosophy, someone whose thought continues to exert an influence across all areas of the discipline. His work is characterized by both breadth and unity: he writes powerfully about mind, epistemology, metaphysics, logic, mathematics, natural science, ethics, politics, aesthetics, education, and more. And across those areas, his work is concerned with defending a view of human beings and their place in nature according to which our own reason enables us to discover and uphold the laws of nature and freedomthat is, to think for ourselves. The Oxford Handbook of Kant provides an up-to-date account of recent scholarship on Kant's philosophy, taking in all areas of his writings. It will be essential reading for students and researchers who want to think for themselves about the topics he wrote with such insight. The individual chapters to this Handbook each provide a scholarly analysis and assessment of some aspect of Kant's thought, and the collection ranges across all the areas to which Kant contributed. It collectively presents a picture of where the study of Kant's philosophy finds itself at this point in the twenty-first century.

Synopsis Outlines of Metaphysic by : Hermann Lotze

Excerpt from Outlines of Metaphysic: Dictated Portions of the Lectures of Hermann Lotze The name of Rudolph Hermann Lotze, philosopher, has already been made familiar to a large number of readers in this country, and no little interest has been awakened in his opinions upon various philosophical and religious themes. But thus far the number who have attained any trustworthy knowledge as to what those opinions are, has remained exceedingly small. Until very recently all his most important published works have been inaccessible to every one unable to cope with voluminous philosophical German. Within the present year, creditable translations of the two large volumes on Logic and Metaphysic, which constitute all of his System of Philosophy that the author lived to publish, have appeared in England; and a translation of his Mikrokosmos (three volumes in German) is promised soon to appear.
