Synopsis OECD Reviews of Vocational Education and Training Vocational Education and Training in Bulgaria Governance and Funding by : Bergseng Benedicte
Over recent years, Bulgaria has shown great willingness to reform its vocational education and training (VET). Significant challenges remain, however, relating notably to the system’s responsiveness to labour market needs and its capacity to ensure equitable outcomes for learners. This report is a focused review of two predefined issues, the governance and funding of VET.

Synopsis OECD Reviews of Vocational Education and Training Vocational Education and Training in Thailand by : OECD
One of a series of studies on vocational education and training, this review assesses vocational education and training (VET) in Thailand and provides policy recommendations. VET has the potential to provide relevant education and training opportunities to young people and adults in Thailand, especially as the demand for technical skills is high. This can be achieved by building on the strengths of the system, including a strong postsecondary vocational system and a small but dynamic dual system. However, it remains an unattractive option for many students in Thailand, because of a poor image among students and parents, quality issues, a hard-to-navigate system and limited progression pathways. Additional efforts are therefore needed to align the mix of provision with the needs of the Thai labour market. This review provides recommendations on how to improve access to programmes, reduce inequalities in access to high-quality institutions and programmes, make better use of skills intelligence to inform education and training policies, and engage employers in the design and delivery of vocational education and training, including work-based learning.

Over the past three decades, Bulgaria has carried out important structural reforms which have helped the country reach higher levels of socio-economic development. Synopsis The Evolution of Transnational Education by : Christopher Hill
This book examines issues of identity; positionality; community; value and relevance, to explore where transnational higher education is headed and what form it may take moving forwards. Transnational higher education has traditionally been viewed through the lens of access. Now, the authors argue, higher education must think more closely about impact and legacy as changing patterns of student recruitment, reduced options for mobility and the need to establish value for money will be at the heart of the next stage of evolution. Drawing on international case studies from Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, the book outlines the past, present and future of higher education working across national boundaries, and the extent to which this represents the globalisation of the university sector. The book opens with an analysis of the role of the university in both local and global contexts, moving on to explore policy and collaboration and then looking at emerging trends and activity in international higher education. The final section draws directly from students, to give their perspective and understanding of the core themes throughout the book. This volume will have a wide readership amongst higher education scholars, undergraduate and postgraduate students and policy makers.
