Synopsis Now, No Opportunity Wasted by : Phil Keoghan
At 19, New Zealand-born TV adventurer Phil Keoghan nearly drowned during a dive to a sunken cruise ship. He survived, but the near-miss got him thinking about all the things he wanted to do before he died - and there were so many he began a list, checking off number one straightaway when he returned to the scene of his diving emergency the very same day. Back on dry land, Phil set about fulfilling his wish list, embarking on a series of adventures ranging from enjoying a five-star meal on the top of an erupting volcano to getting married underwater. He found that while often off-the-wall, quirky and sometimes even downright dangerous, each experience enriched his life in unexpected ways. And he realised he had created a philosophy that he's keen to share with others: it's all about getting the most out of life. Now Phil wants to help you achieve the experiences you've always hankered after but thought you would never have time for. With easygoing humour, he cuts through the excuses and asks, 'What are you waiting for?' Drawing on Phil's own amazing adventures as well as the stories of ordinary people who have taken up his challenge, NO OPPORTUNITY WASTED is an urgent call to action that will inspire you to: * face your fear * 'get lost' - lose yourself in the experience * test your limits * take a leap of faith * rediscover your childhood * shed your inhibitions * break new ground, and * aim for the heart - live out your dream by helping others. So stop dreaming and get out there and do it - NOW!

Synopsis American Wasteland by : Jonathan Bloom
What Tom Vanderbilt did for traffic and Brian Wansink did for mindless eating, Jonathan Bloom does for food waste. The topic couldn't be timelier: As more people are going hungry while simultaneously more people are morbidly obese, American Wasteland sheds light on the history, culture, and mindset of waste while exploring the parallel eco-friendly and sustainable-food movements. As the era of unprecedented prosperity comes to an end, it's time to reexamine our culture of excess. Working at both a local grocery store and a major fast food chain and volunteering with a food recovery group, Bloom also interviews experts—from Brian Wansink to Alice Waters to Nobel Prize–winning economist Amartya Sen—and digs up not only why and how we waste, but, more importantly, what we can do to change our ways.

Synopsis A Crisis Wasted by : Reed Hundt
“The blow by blow story of a president and his team wasting the ‘opportunity’ of the Great Recession to change the fundamentals of the economy.” —Steven Brill, New York Times–bestselling author This book is the compelling story of President Obama’s domestic policy decisions made between September 2008 and his inauguration on January 20, 2009. Barack Obama determined the fate of his presidency before he took office. His momentous decisions led to Donald Trump, for Obama the worst person imaginable, taking his place eight years later. This book describes these decisions and discusses how the results could have been different. Based on dozens of interviews with actors in the Obama transition, as well as the author’s personal observations, this book provides unique commentary of those defining decisions of winter 2008–2009. A decade later, the ramifications of the Great Recession and the role of government in addressing the crisis animate the ideological battle between progressivism and neoliberalism in the Democratic Party and the radical direction of the Republican Party. As many seek the presidency in the November 2020 election, all candidates and of course the eventual winner will face decisions that may be as critical and difficult as those confronted by Barack Obama. This book aims to provide the guidance of history. “A powerfully lucid, compelling and surprising achievement . . . makes a subtle but irresistible argument that, given the conservative undertow of American politics, liberals and progressives who are serious about change can’t just wing it but must prepare detailed economic policy analyses and prescriptions long in advance of taking power.” —Congressman Jamie Raskin, Representative from Maryland’s 8th District

Synopsis No Opportunity Wasted by : Joseph Walker
One of the things I¿ve observed among some incredibly successful people is the guarding of their ¿how¿. What I mean here is that many they willingly share what they have accomplished but only give cursory remarks on concerning how they did it. To be fair there are some legitimate reasons they do this. Some fear the erroneous replication of their brand. Others fear that some will take the strategies move toward implementation while totally dismissing the sweat equity implicit within them. This guarded approach is completely understood and has given me even greater excitement about this book. What works for one organization may not work for yours, but it is essential that you have a comprehensive understanding of what it truly takes to execute vision.

Synopsis Wasted Lives by : Zygmunt Bauman
The production of ‘human waste’ – or more precisely, wasted lives, the ‘superfluous’ populations of migrants, refugees and other outcasts – is an inevitable outcome of modernization. It is an unavoidable side-effect of economic progress and the quest for order which is characteristic of modernity. As long as large parts of the world remained wholly or partly unaffected by modernization, they were treated by modernizing societies as lands that were able to absorb the excess of population in the ‘developed countries’. Global solutions were sought, and temporarily found, to locally produced overpopulation problems. But as modernization has reached the furthest lands of the planet, ‘redundant population’ is produced everywhere and all localities have to bear the consequences of modernity’s global triumph. They are now confronted with the need to seek – in vain, it seems – local solutions to globally produced problems. The global spread of the modernity has given rise to growing quantities of human beings who are deprived of adequate means of survival, but the planet is fast running out of places to put them. Hence the new anxieties about ‘immigrants’ and ‘asylum seekers’ and the growing role played by diffuse ‘security fears’ on the contemporary political agenda. With characteristic brilliance, this new book by Zygmunt Bauman unravels the impact of this transformation on our contemporary culture and politics and shows that the problem of coping with ‘human waste’ provides a key for understanding some otherwise baffling features of our shared life, from the strategies of global domination to the most intimate aspects of human relationships.

Synopsis From Locker Room to Boardroom by : Ross van Reenen
More than 84 per cent of professional rugby players in South Africa are going to find it difficult to survive financially once they stop playing rugby. How will they find success in their new careers once their rugby jerseys have been washed for the last time? From Locker Room to Boardroom explores how former South African rugby players culled certain traits from their playing days and applied them to their enterprises in order to make a successful transition from the rugby field (the locker room) to the business world (the boardroom). Naas Botha, Gary Teichmann, Joel Stransky, François Pienaar, Kevin de Klerk, Breyton Paulse and Kobus Wiese, to name but a few, share the many challenges they faced and the different strategies they employed on the road to establishing the single factor that, more than any other, lies at the root of their business success. Filled with entertaining anecdotes, sound practical advice and pioneering business models, From Locker Room to Boardroom provides a unique and fascinating approach to achieving success in the commercial world.
