Synopsis Nobody's Kingdom by : T.J. Winnifrith
The Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, foreign invasion, communism and tribal conflict: these have been the realities of life in Northern Albania for centuries. In this rich and comprehensive history, Tom Winnifrith examines the many different elements that have shaped this independent and little-known region of the Balkans. He explores the fundamental division between the South of Albania and its mysterious, romantic North - more feudal, more tribal, more Catholic and more prone to Austrian and Italian influence. It is also a region less affected by Greece, both ancient and modern, and by medieval Byzantium or the Orthodox faith. Northern Albania, with a terrain and climate much harsher than the south of the country, has traditionally had little respect for law and authority while its inhabitants remain in thrall to an ancient honour code -- the kanun -- demanding blood feuds and terrible revenge. Nobody's Kingdom traces the history of this ruggedly beautiful region, frequently disturbed by both invaders and internal strife yet retaining a distinct national identity and character. From its origins in the ancient kingdom of Illyria and the Roman province of Illyricum, through Byzantine and Ottoman rule, the granting of Albanian independence in 1912, the rise and fall of communism to its current fragile democracy, Northern Albania can be seen as a cultural crossroads - especially remarkable given its mountainous and difficult landscape. This book, both scholarly and readable, is the first modern comprehensive history of Northern Albania and is a timely and accessible introduction to a remote and inaccessible region.

All my books are about mercenries with some of my own expriences included. They show how the greed of high statesmen and the inconsistance of some African countries can result in wars. Some of the countries that won back their independance only to distroy themselves through lack of trust for there own people. influences from outside agencies which created more troubles than the people themselves. Mercenries were used in nearly all wars especially in Africa but their governments would deny that we was ever there, but we was.

Synopsis Nobody's Home by : Scott Kennedy
The scourge of the monster house affects communities all across Canada, so while the Toronto neighbourhood of York Mills is not unique in this respect, it has suffered more than most, owing to the generous size of its residential lots in what has now become the centre of the city. York Mills was still a rural community until after the Second World War, when a post-war population boom created a housing boom that gobbled up the local woods and farmland. By 1960 most of this land had been sacrificed for housing, and by the mid-1970s it was all gone. Then a strange thing began to happen. Developers, who had the money to outbid legitimate home buyers, started tearing down perfectly liveable post-war homes to build monster houses. Today, over fifty years later, this destructive practice continues. The environmental costs have been devastating, as affordable houses are demolished—their remains dumped in landfills—and mature trees are cut down to facilitate the new construction: construction that demands copious amounts of wood, cement, and other new building materials. The social cost has been equally damaging, as affordable homes are destroyed and replaced by multi-million-dollar houses that are out of reach of families who once called these neighbourhoods home. The three hundred colour photos in this book recall but a fraction of the homes we have lost in this one community alone. The text tells their stories, stories that take us back to a time when houses were places to live, not get-rich-quick schemes.

Synopsis Nobody's Hero by : Frank Laumer
In December 1835, eight officers and one hundred men of the U.S. Army under the command of Brevet Major Francis Langhorne Dade set out from Fort Brooke at Tampa Bay, Florida, to march north a hundred miles to reinforce Fort King (present-day Ocala). On the sixth day, halfway to their destination, they were attacked by Seminole Indians. By four o'clock in the afternoon, only three wounded soldiers survived what came to be known as the Dade Massacre. Only two of those men managed to struggle fifty miles back to Fort Brooke. One of them—wounded in the shoulder and hip, a bullet in one lung—was Private Ransom Clark. It is the story of great duplicity, not on the part of Seminole Indians, but of the politicians and officers who sent the men of Dade's command to their death. The Dade Massacre was the pretext the U.S. government needed to begin the Second Seminole War, the longest and most expensive Indian war in American history. In 1839 Ransom Clark wrote a brief account of his ordeal, entitled The Surprising Adventures of Ransom Clark, Among the Indians in Florida. Although he promised to later supply an entire account, he didn't live long enough to do so, succumbing to his grave wounds. In Nobody's Hero, Frank Laumer completes Clark's story.

Synopsis Nobody's Hero by : Carrie Alexander
Why can't everybody just leave him alone? All Sean Rafferty wants is solitude to recover from a gunshot wound. That's why he's here on Maine's isolated Osprey Island: to heal and move on. But how can he face going back to being a Massachusetts state police officer since he's sworn off ever playing hero again? Unfortunately, Sean can't avoid heroics when neighboring Connie Bradford's daughter keeps getting into trouble. And the fiercely independent Connie makes it clear she doesn't need a rescuer— reluctant or otherwise. The mother-and-daughter antics make his solitude seem almost too quiet. Despite himself, Sean finds this pair wrestling their way into his heart…as if they belong there.
