Computational Intelligence is a broad and active research area that is growing rapidly due to the many successful applications of these new techniques in very diverse problems. Many industries have benefited from adopting this technology. The increased number of patents and diverse range of products developed using computational intelligence methods is evidence of this fact. The technology of arti?cial intelligence is increasing its importance thanks to the rapid growth of the Internet and computer technology. In Japan, the annual conference series of JSAI (The Japanese Society for Arti?cial Intelligence) has been playing a leading role in promoting AI research, and selected papers of the annual conferences have been published in the LNAI series since 2003. This book consists of award papers from the 21st annual conference of JSAI (JSAI 2007) and selected papers from the four co-located workshops. Seven papers were awarded among more than 335 presentations in the conference and 24 papers were selected from a total of 48 presentations in the co-located workshops: Logic and Engineering of Natural Language Semantics 2007 (LENLS 2007), the International Workshop on Risk Informatics (RI 2007), the 5th Wo- shop on Learning with Logics and Logics for Learning (LLLL 2007), and the 1st International Workshop on Juris-informatics (JURISIN 2007). The award papers from JSAI 2007 underwent a rigorous selection process. Firstly, recommendations were made from three people (Session Chair, session commentator and one PC member) in each session, and then recommended - pers were carefully reviewed and voted for by PC members for ?nal selection.

The 21st International Conference on Industrial, Engineering and Other Applications of Applied Intelligent Systems (IEA-AIE 2008) held in Wroclaw, Poland was an international scientific forum for researchers in the field of applied artificial intelligence. The presentations of the invited speakers and the authors focused on developing and employing methods and systems to solve real-life problems in all applied intelligence areas. The IEA-AIE conference series, chaired by Moonis Ali, has a very long tradition, and it is the first time it was hosted in Poland. We received 302 papers from 52 countries. Each paper was sent to at least three Program Committee members for review. Although the general quality of the submissions was very high, only 90 best papers were selected for oral presentation and publication in the LNAI proceedings. The papers in the proceedings cover the following topics: computer vision, fuzzy system applications, robot, manufacturing, data mining and knowledge discovery, neural network, machine learning, natural language processing, Internet application, e-learning, heuristic search, application systems, agent-based system, evolutionary and genetic algorithms, knowledge management, and other applications. These papers highlight new trends and frontiers of applied artificial intelligence and show how new research could lead to new and innovative applications. We hope you will find these works useful and inspiring for your own research. This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the JSAI-isAI 2013 Workshops LENLS, JURISIN, MiMI, AAA, and DDS which tool place on October 2013, in Japan. The 28 contributions in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 48 submissions. LENLS (Logic and Engineering of Natural Language Semantics) is an annual international workshop on formal semantics and pragmatics. LENLS10 was the tenth event in the series, and it focused on the formal and theoretical aspects of natural language. JURISIN (Juris-Informatics) 2013 was the seventh event in the series. The purpose of this workshop was to discuss fundamental and practical issues for jurisinformatics, bringing together experts from a variety of relevant backgrounds, including law, social science, information and intelligent technology, logic,and philosophy (including the area of AI and law). MiMI (Multimodality in Multiparty Interaction) 2013 covers topics as follows interaction studies, communication studies, conversation analysis, and workplace studies, as well as their applications in other research fields. AAA (Argument for Agreement and Assurance) 2013 focused on the theoretical foundations of argumentation in AI, and the application of argumentation to various fields such as agreement formation and assurance. DDS (Data Discretization and Segmentation for Knowledge Discovery) 2013 discussed segmentation methods for various types of data, such as graphs, trees, strings, and continuous data, and their applications in the areas of Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery.

Arti?cial intelligence has recently been re-energized to provide the clues needed to resolve complicated problems. AI is also expected to play a central role in enhancing a wide variety of daily activities. JSAI (The Japanese Society for Arti?cial Intelligence) is responsible for boosting the activities of AI researchers in Japan, and their series of annual conferences o?ers attractive forums for the exposition of the latest achievements and inter-group communication. In the past, the best papers of the conferences were published in the LNAI series. This book consists of award papers from the 22nd annual conference of the JSAI (JSAI 2008) and selected papers from the three co-located workshops. Eight papers were selected among more than 400 presentations at the conference and 18 papers were selected from the 34 presentations at the co-located wo- shops; Logic and Engineering of Natural Language Semantics 5 (LENLS 2008), the 2nd International Workshop on Juris-informatics (JURISIN 2008), and the First International Workshop on Laughter in Interaction and Body Movement (LIBM 2008). The award papers from JSAI 2008 were selected through a r- orous selection process. In the process, papers recommended by session chairs, session commentators, and PC members were carefully reviewed, before the ?nal decision was made.

This book presents the joint post-proceedings of five international workshops organized by the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, during the 19th Annual Conference JSAI 2005. The volume includes 5 award winning papers of the main conference, along with 40 revised full workshop papers, covering such topics as logic and engineering of natural language semantics, learning with logics, agent network dynamics and intelligence, conversational informatics and risk management systems with intelligent data analysis.

The 7th Scandanavian Conference on Artificial Intelligence, held at the Maersk McKinney Moller Institute for Production Technology at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, in Feb 2001 continued a tradition established by SCAI of being an important conference in Europe. It attracted submissions from all over the world. Contents include: robotics; sensor/motor intelligence; evolutionary robotics; behaviour-based systems; multi-agent systems; applications of AI in bioinformatics; soft computing and heuristic algorithms, where paradigms from nature are used to build learning and optimization systems; and control and optimization.

Annotation. The Lyee International Workshop (Lyee-W02) is a means for presenting the results of the Lyee International research project, oriented for new software generation techniques based on Lyee technologies. Lyee-W02 will help to build a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences in the field of new directions on software development methodologies and its tools and techniques. Lyee methodology captures the essence of the innovations, controversies, challenges, and possible solutions of the software industry. This theory is born from experience and it is the time to stimulate the academic research on software science initiated from experience to theory through this workshop and its coming series.
