Synopsis Whatever. by : S. J. Goslee

“Fans of David Levithan’s Boy Meets Boy (2003) and Becky Albertalli’s Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (2015) won’t be disappointed.” —Booklist, starred review “Recommended for young adults who enjoy . . . books by John Green, Adam Silvera, or John Corey Whaley.” —School Library Journal, starred review It's like the apocalypse came, only instead of nuclear bombs and zombies, Mike gets school participation, gay thoughts, and mother-effin' cheerleaders. Junior year is about to start. Here's what Mike Tate knows: His friends are awesome and their crappy garage band is a great excuse to drink cheap beer. Rook Wallace is the devil. The Lemonheads rock. And his girlfriend Lisa is the coolest. Then Lisa breaks up with him, which makes Mike only a little sad, because they'll stay friends and he never knew what to do with her boobs anyway. But when Mike finds out why Lisa dumped him, it blows his mind. And worse—he gets elected to homecoming court. With a standout voice, a hilariously honest view on sex and sexuality, and enough f-bombs to make your mom blush, S.J. Goslee's debut YA novel Whatever. is a fresh, modern take on the coming-out story. A 2017 Booklist Youth Editors' Choice

Synopsis Shakespeare’s Histories on Screen by : Jennie M. Votava

This volume reframes the critical conversation about Shakespeare's histories and national identity by bringing together two growing bodies of work: early modern race scholarship and adaptation theory. Theorizing a link between adaptation and intersectionality, it demonstrates how over the past thirty years race has become a central and constitutive part of British and American screen adaptations of the English histories. Available to expanding audiences via digital media platforms, these adaptations interrogate the dialectic between Shakespeare's cultural capital and racial reckonings on both sides of the Atlantic and across time. By engaging contemporary representations of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability and class, adaptation not only creates artefacts that differ from their source texts, but also facilitates the conditions in which race and its intersections in the plays become visible. At the centre of this analysis stand two landmark 21st-century history adaptations that use non-traditional casting: the British TV miniseries The Hollow Crown (2012, 2016) and the American independent film H4 (2012), an all-Black Henry IV conflation. In addition to demonstrating how the 21st-century screen history illuminates both past and present constructions of embodied difference, these works provide a lens for reassessing two history adaptations from Shakespeare's 1990s box office renaissance, when actors of colour were first cast in cinematic versions of the plays. As exemplified by these formal adaptations' reappropriations of race in history, non-traditional Shakespearean casting practices are also currently shaping digital culture's conversations about race in non-Shakespearean period dramas such as Bridgerton.

Synopsis Forgive Me Father for I Have Sinned by : Julia Villegas Phelps

Although there is a great deal of attention given – quite rightly so – to pedophile priests, my experience with clergy sexual abuse was also a nightmare. It started out by my being raped as a teenager by a priest who I thought I could trust and then being coerced into having an affair with him for fear of losing my children. A skilled manipulator, especially of vulnerable teenagers and young women who had challenges in their lives, we all thought a priest could help us overcome our particular situations. Once he gained my trust and pretended to be a friend, he set about a path to manipulate me toward a path to a living hell that put my spiritual health and soul in danger. I saw him as a man of the cloth, a man of God who would help me and my children without expecting anything in return. Little did I know I was not his fi rst victim, nor would I be his last, lured by his promises to leave the church for me, and by his word that God himself had sent him to save us.

The clues lead him to the Florida Keys, where the Dead End Boys have been set up to run drugs for the Cuban mafia that has its grip on Miami.
