Dr. William H. Bates discovered Natural Eyesight Improvement, 'The Bates Method'. His Experiments prove that tension in the outer eye muscles (oblique and Recti) disrupt, change the shape of the eye and focus of light rays in the eye resulting in; unclear close and distant vision, astigmatism, crossed, wandering eyes, cataract, glaucoma and other abnormal eye conditions. He proved that the outer eye muscles, (oblique) when relaxed, contracting, un-contracting normally change the shape of the eye to normal to produce clear close and distant vision. Dr. Bates proved that relaxation of the mind, body, outer eye muscles results in a return of the eye to normal shape with correct focus of light rays in the eyes, on the retina with clear vision at all distances, removal of astigmatism and other eye problems, keeps the eyes healthy with normal circulation, eye pressure, correct function of the optic and other eye, visual system nerves. Abnormal pressure, tension, pulling on/in the eye, lens, retina is removed. William Horatio Bates (1860-1931) was an American physician who practiced ophthalmology and developed what is now known as the Bates Method for better eyesight, an educational method intended to improve vision by undoing a supposed habitual strain to see. The efficacy of the method is questionable, and his theory that the eye does not focus by changing the power of the lens, but rather by elongating the eyeball, through use of the extraocular oblique muscles, was contradicted by mainstream ophthalmology and optometry of his day and is still today. He graduated A. B. from Cornell University in 1881 and received his medical degree at the college of physicians and surgeons in 1885. He formulated a theory about vision health, and published the book Perfect Sight Without Glasses in 1920. He also discovered the astringent and haemostatic properties of the substance produced by the suprarenal gland, and its value in medicine, especially in surgeries. The substance would later be commercialized as adrenaline.

The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility. Functioning eyes and vision system can reduce an adult's risk of chronic health conditions, death, falls and injuries, social isolation, depression, and other psychological problems. In children, properly maintained eye and vision health contributes to a child's social development, academic achievement, and better health across the lifespan. A larger population health approach is needed to engage a wide range of stakeholders in coordinated efforts that can sustain the scope of behavior change. The shaping of socioeconomic environments can eventually lead to new social norms that promote eye and vision health. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow proposes a new population-centered framework to guide action and coordination among various, and sometimes competing, stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Building on the momentum of previous public health efforts, this report also introduces a model for action that highlights different levels of prevention activities across a range of stakeholders and provides specific examples of how population health strategies can be translated into cohesive areas for action at federal, state, and local levels.
