Synopsis The Kingdom of Heaven by :

Excerpt from The Kingdom of Heaven: A Revelation N sending forth his disciples to proclaim the good tidings that the kingdom of heaven is at hand, anticipating the probable rejection of their testimony, Jesus said, Nevertheless be ye sure of this, the Kingdom of God is come nigh. Long before his disciples were able to discern the true spiritual significance of that kingdom, to them it was 'given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, for they were witnesses of their outward manifestation long before they were spiritually pre pared to understand, or enter into, that state of blessedness through purity of heart and faith in God. No argument accompanied their announcement of the glad tidings, they simply proclaimed the good news; the attestation of its truth was independent of their own minds. Synopsis The Kingdom of Heaven (Classic Reprint) by : H. Maldwyn Hughes

Excerpt from The Kingdom of Heaven The aim of this volume is practical. Every preacher and teacher has to face the question - What is the Gospel? Jesus began His ministry by proclaiming the advent of the Kingdom of Heaven. It is, therefore, a matter of paramount importance to ascertain the significance of the Kingdom in His teaching. This has been one of the main subjects of theological inquiry during recent years. There are still wide divergencies of interpretation, but there is a growing recognition that neither the 'evolutionary' nor the 'catastrophic' elements in our Lord's teaching can be explained away, if justice is done to the records. I have striven, in these pages, to present both aspects impartially, and to show how they are related to one another. The subject is approached in the light of the critical study of the Gospels, but with a desire to avoid the subjectivity which is so often the bane of the critical method. A theme on which so much has been written offers little scope for originality. I venture, however, to cherish the hope that the presentation of the material may help some of those who are engaged in the practical work of preaching and teaching to a better understanding of the central message of our Lord's ministry. I have to express my obligations to my friend, Rev. Sydney Cave, D.D., Principal of Cheshunt College, who has read most of the manuscript and has made valuable suggestions, and to my wife, who has assisted in reading the proofs and in preparing the index. Synopsis What Is the Kingdom of Heaven? (Classic Reprint) by : A. Clutton Brock

Excerpt from What Is the Kingdom of Heaven? I hope that in this book I may not seen to express a greater hostility to Christian orthodoxy than I feel. As I owe all that I most firmly believe to that orthodoxy, I should be ungrateful if I spoke of it with enmity or contempt. But orthodoxy can be living only if it is ready to confess that it may have made mistakes even on the most vital points. The mistake which I believe it has made, and which I try to point out in this book, is really one of emphasis. It would be easy to quote passages from Christian writers, all through the ages, against my contention that Christ's doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven has been ignored. But these passages would not prove that any church has laid that emphasis on the doctrine which Christ Himself laid on it, or that there has been a sustained effort to understand the doctrine or to state it clearly and fully. The doctrine is not the centre of Christian thought and teaching; and in this book I contend that it ought to be. Synopsis The Kingdom of God, Or Reign of Heaven Among Men (Classic Reprint) by : Francis Asa Wight

Excerpt from The Kingdom of God, or Reign of Heaven Among Men The law in hermeneutics The Unity of Truth has been fully recognised and it is the greatest joy to see all Scripture, whether in the Old or New Testament, that bears upon this theme brought into complete harmony. Every verse has been given its most obvious meaning; for most certainly the Lord knows how to express truth in the clearest way and He means what He says, and says exactly what He desired to say; and all twisting or strain ing of the Scriptures is insulting to God. Beware of the commentator who magnifies obscure truths, putting them in a place of great promlnence. God's light is not put under a bushel waiting for some visionary to lift it Off. AS it is absolutely necessary for a surveyor to find first his beginning corner before he runs his lines, so it is just as essential for a student to find the beginning of God's kingdom, that John and Jesus proclaimed to be at hand, before he can understand the purpose, nature or place of the kingdom of God in the earth.
