Marathas and the Maratha Country' : under this general theme we have already published two books of Professor A. R. Kulkarni, namely (1) Maharashtra in the Age of Shivaji and (2) Maharashtra Society and Culture. We are now introducing his four books under the same series containing reasearch articles based on orginal source and published in various journals. They are (i) The Marathas (1600-1818), a brief survey, (ii) Medieval Maratha Country, essays throwing fresh light on the various aspects of land and people of the region, (iii) Medieval Maharashtra containing essays on Village Communities, social relations, jiziya etc. and (iv) Studies in Maratha History which also includes articles of some other foreign and Indian scholars on Maratha historiography.

In the 16th century, invaders looked upon Hindustan with the dream of annexing it. They relentlessly attacked Hindustan’s small villages, torturing, looting, burning houses, and destroying temples. But in the 17th century, a young boy named Shivaji, stood up to fight those invaders and lit the lamp for Swarajya (Independence). He along with his comrades, rebelled and managed to recapture Maharashtra and some parts of Karnataka. His legacy was later continued by the Peshwas (Prime ministers) of the Maratha empire. By 1759, the Maratha empire reached its zenith, having recaptured Hindustan from Tamil Nadu to Peshawar (present-day Pakistan) and from Gujarat to Bengal! Maratha Samrajya is a short but detailed history of famous Maratha events, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to Madhavrao Ballal Peshwa. This book is an attempt to showcase their remarkable battles and immense sacrifice without which Hindustan would not have attained freedom from the invading armies.

In this book, Dr. Stewart Gordon presents the first comprehensive history of the Maratha polity, which was an important regional kingdom in the seventeenth century and the largest political entity of eighteenth century India. Sindhian Family Followed Pragmatic Diplomacy.Sindhia Family Continues To Play An Important Role In Indian Politics And The Last Sindhian Ruler Became Raj Pramukh Of Madhya Bharat. After The Abolition Of Privy Purse, Vijay Raje Sindhia And Basundhra Raje In B.J.P. And Madhavrao Sindhia And Jyotiraditya Sindhia In Congress Continued To Play An Important Role In Indian Politics And Are Related With Nepal And Kashmir Royal Family. The history of the Anglo-Maratha struggle in single volume is being written for the first time. This forms an important part of Indian military history, a territory not very well explored. In a guerrilla war that lasted from 1682 to 1707, the Maratha Kingdom founded by Shivaji the Great, destroyed the Mughal power. It was not very long before Marathas became the per-eminent power on the Indian subcontinent. In 1761 however the Marathas suffered a major reverse in their effort to have an all India Empire when they lost heavily to Afghans in the battle of Panipat. The British seized this opportunity and beginning as Mughal vassal in Bengal, slowly extended their sway over the entire country. Marathas opposed the British and fought three wars. The story of these conflicts is an essential link in the chain of Indian history. The various record of this period from Portuguese and French sources have only become available on 1970s. An authentic and objective reconstruction of the history of that period can now be done. In order to keep continuity and also relevance, events other than the Anglo-Maratha struggle have also been covered in brief.
