Louisa May Alcott was an American novelist best known as author of the novel 'Little Women.' In the mid-1860s, Alcott wrote passionate, fiery novels and sensational stories. She also produced wholesome stories for children, and after their positive reception, she did not generally return to creating works for adults. Alcott continued to write until her death.

The first entry in Alcott’s wonderful ‘Lulu’s Library’ trilogy gets the series off to a flying start, packed with wonderful fairy tales, fantastical worlds and amazing heroes and heroines. As is the case with much of Alcott’s work, profound moral lessons are weaved in to the fabric of her stories and this collection is no different. ‘A Christmas Dream’ focuses heavily on teaching children to look out for those less fortunate in society, where others such as ‘Skipping Shoes’ focus on the importance of telling the truth and doing the right thing. Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an author, abolitionist and proud feminist. Her family suffered financially while she was growing up and so she was forced to take on multiple jobs in her youth to help provide for her family. Her writing became her outlet, forming her ideas and beliefs in the empowerment of women and people in to literature that reverberates to this day. Her most notable works include "Little Women", which is now a movie starring Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet, its sequel ‘Little Men’ and ‘An Old Fashioned Girl’.

One of my earliest memories is of playing with books in my father's study, --building towers and bridges of the big dictionaries, looking at pictures, pretending to read, and scribbling on blank pages whenever pen or pencil could be found. Many of these first attempts at authorship still exist; and I often wonder if these childish plays did not influence my after-life, since books have been my greatest comfort, castle-building a never-failing delight, and scribbling a very profitable amusement. Another very vivid recollection is of the day when running after my hoop I fell into the Frog Pond and was rescued by a black boy, becoming a friend to the colored race then and there, though my mother always declared that I was an abolitionist at the age of three

The third volume, published in 1889, posthumously, features nine stories, including "Recollections Of My Childhood," "A Christmas Turkey, and How it Came," and "The Little Red Purse."
