Synopsis The Unforgettable Logan Foster #1 by : Shawn Peters
Packed with superheroes, supervillains, and epic showdowns between good and evil, The Unforgettable Logan Foster from debut author Shawn Peters shows that sometimes being a hero is just about being yourself. Logan Foster has pretty much given up on the idea of ever being adopted. It could have something to with his awkward manner, his photographic memory, or his affection for reciting curious facts, but whatever the cause, Logan and his “PP’s” (prospective parents) have never clicked. Then everything changes when Gil and Margie arrive. Although they aren’t exactly perfect themselves—Gil has the punniest sense of humor and Margie’s cooking would have anyone running for the hills—they genuinely seem to care. But it doesn’t take Logan long to notice some very odd things about them. They are out at all hours, they never seem to eat, and there’s a part of the house that is protected by some pretty elaborate security. No matter what Logan could have imagined, nothing prepared him for the truth: His PP’s are actually superheroes, and they’re being hunted down by dastardly forces. Logan’s found himself caught in the middle in a massive battle and the very fate of the world may hang in the balance. Will Logan be able to find a way to save the day and his new family? 2024 Illinois Bluestem Reader's Choice Award Nominee

Synopsis Because of the Dark by : Danah Logan
The dark didn't end with the light. He lost his future. She fights to survive. More secrets, more betrayal, and a love that was meant to fail before it even began. My name is Weston, but my friends call me Wes. Though, I don't have many left. Two years ago, I lost my dream. My future. My best friend's sister stumbled across a secret she had no idea existed-her secret. Friendships were betrayed. Unexpected alliances were formed. My loyalty was tested, but I blindly stood by their side. What I didn't realize was that following them into the dark would cost me everything. My friends. My scholarship. I was driven by anger and resentment toward the people I had once trusted with my life. Until I met her: King. My name is Kingsley Monroe. At least, that's the name I go by these days. I didn't plan this. I wasn't supposed to stay. Keep moving, he ordered. Then, one fateful afternoon changed the course of my future. I ran into him: Weston Sheats-literally. I stayed in the shadows for over a year. Eventually, my need for him to notice made me step out of the dark. I wanted him to see me once. I swore I wouldn't let him get close, I would not get attached. I failed. I fell-hard. An unexpected turn of events was the wake-up call I needed. I had to tell him, come clean. But would he accept my past? Who I am? Realizing there was no future, I did what I was supposed to do months ago...and I took the one thing with me that could've made a difference for both of us. ** Author's note: Because of the Dark (BOTD) is the fourth book in The Dark Series and considered an INTERCONNECTED standalone. Synopsis Awkward Rituals by : Dana W. Logan
A fresh account of early American religious history that argues for a new understanding of ritual. In the years between the American Revolution and the Civil War, there was an awkward persistence of sovereign rituals, vestiges of a monarchical past that were not easy to shed. In Awkward Rituals, Dana Logan focuses our attention on these performances, revealing the ways in which governance in the early republic was characterized by white Protestants reenacting the hierarchical authority of a seemingly rejected king. With her unique focus on embodied action, rather than the more common focus on discourse or law, Logan makes an original contribution to debates about the relative completeness of America’s Revolution. Awkward Rituals theorizes an under-examined form of action: rituals that do not feel natural even if they sometimes feel good. This account challenges common notions of ritual as a force that binds society and synthesizes the self. Ranging from Freemason initiations to evangelical societies to missionaries posing as sailors, Logan shows how white Protestants promoted a class-based society while simultaneously trumpeting egalitarianism. She thus redescribes ritual as a box to check, a chore to complete, an embarrassing display of theatrical verve. In Awkward Rituals, Logan emphasizes how ritual distinctively captures what does not change through revolution.
