This book reviews and explains the principal public records statutes applicable to records held by North Carolina local governments and examines the public's right of access to those records. It expands the coverage of the first edition and its cumulative supplement and also includes developments in the law since 2004. Although the book focuses on records held by local governments, state government officials also will find it useful.

This easy-to-understand little book is a must-have for every local union trustee and auditor. In the author's words, it "provides local union trustees and auditors with the know-how and confidence they need to spot problems so they can be promptly reported and corrected." It provides "a basic road map of procedures and a toolbox of skills and worksheets" to help auditors and trustees accomplish their jobs. It's likely to be a big help to local union treasurers as well, especially those new to the job. The author is an associate professor at the School for Workers, University of Wisconsin - Madison, whose work has included a focus on union administration.

Terry Thomas considers the use of criminal records within the criminal justice system and beyond - especially the growth of their use for pre-employment screening via the Criminal Records Bureau. This book also considers future developments and the impact that transferring criminal records across international borders will have.

Part 1 describes the care and use of county archives, and the functions of clerk, recorder, and school and fiscal officials. Part 2 details the types of records and locations in each county.

DATA ENGINEERING: Mining, Information, and Intelligence describes applied research aimed at the task of collecting data and distilling useful information from that data.
