This monumental history of ancient Rome, also known as 'Ab urbe condita', covers the period from the legends concerning the arrival of Aeneas and the refugees from the fall of Troy to the reign of Emperor Augustus. The surviving books cover events from the city's founding to 293 BC, and from 219 to 166 BC. This volume contains Books 37 to the end, focusing on the Macedonian and other eastern wars from 201 to 167 BC. He was for many years a senior official in the Florentine Republic, with responsibilities in diplomatic and military affairs. He served as a secretary to the Second Chancery of the Republic of Florence from 1498 to 1512, when the Medici were out of power.He wrote his most well-known work The Prince in 1513, having been exiled from city affairs.
