Synopsis The Coleoptera of the Seychelles Islands by : Justin Gerlach
The Seychelles islands are biogeographically interesting, with ancient affinities to Africa and Asia, recent colonising species from the Indo-Pacific and modern introductions. Until recently relatively little has been known about the biodiversity of the islands. This is changed by the series of monographs on the Seychelles fauna, presenting the latest information on all the terrestrial and freshwater animals of the islands. The "Diptera of the Seychelles Islands" includes all 630 recorded from the islands, presenting distribution records, descriptions of many species and assessments of their conservation status.

Synopsis Lepidopterorum Catalogus by : Poole
The noctuidae of the world, a family with numerous important agricultural pests, comprises about a third of the entire order Lepidoptera. This new three-volume set is the first complete catalog for the world. About 38,000 named species (including known synonyms) are listed alphabetically under each genus name in over 1,000 pages of text. Genera area also listed alphabetically, but subfamily affiliations are noted for each of the valid names to enable users to segregate genera by subfamily. Valid names are noted in boldface. Synonyms are listed for each genus and species; the species synonyms are also listed alphabetically among the valid names, thus enabling users to make two kinds of searches in the text as well as in the index. The catalog provides citation data on all described names (other than infraspecific names), with references cited in the compete bibliography at the end. Reference is also made to more important papers on the biology, larvae, host plants, and illustrations for each species, again with full titles noted in the bibliography. The main host plants for each species, where known, are listed under each. Details of holotypes, where known, are also noted. The bibliography has entries for approximately 4,400 papers.

Excerpt from The Lepidoptera of the British Islands, Vol. 1: A Descriptive Account of the Families, Genera, and Species Indigenous to Great Britain and Ireland, Their Preparatory States, Habits, and Localities; Rhopalocera Lepidoptera (singular Lepidopteron - lopis scale, pteron wing) are those insects which are clothed with scales, as distinguished from those which have hairy wings, or are devoid of covering; and although some few moths will be found to have the wings bare of scales, and others occur in which the females have no wings at all, the scales will still be found on heads, bodies, legs, and even on the margins Of the wings, when present. Insect-s of this order are never provided with jaws nor with stings, and indeed have in the perfect state no effective means of defence.
