Synopsis Latin American Nations In World Politics by : Heraldo Munoz
When the first edition of Latin American Nations in World Politics was published in 1984, it was the only book to undertake the study of Latin American foreign policy seriously and to place Latin American international affairs within a broader, global framework, both geopolitically and academically. The transition to democracy only hoped for at that time has now become a reality in every country in the hemisphere except Cuba. Many countries have also undertaken dramatic economic restructuring that impels them to participate more actively in world markets. More significantly, the end of the cold war has irrevocably altered the place of Latin American nations in the global community. This new edition, completely rewritten, offers an up-to-date analysis of the foreign policies of the major countries in the region, evaluating the impact of changes in the global community on the hemisphere and on individual states. As in the first edition, there is a combination of theoretical reflection and empirical description, and each case study treats similar issues, inviting comparative analysis. Many of the contributors are now senior scholars or key actors in the formulation and execution of foreign policy in their own countries. Together they bring seasoned, wide-ranging, and mature perspectives to the complex issues the region faces and at the close of the twentieth century.

Synopsis Routledge Handbook of Latin America in the World by : Jorge I Dominguez
The Handbook of Latin America in the World explains how the Latin American countries have both reacted and contributed to changing international dynamics over the last 30 years. It provides a comprehensive picture of Latin America’s global engagement by looking at specific processes and issues that link governments and other actors, social and economic, within the region and beyond. Leading scholars offer an up-to-date state of the field, theoretically and empirically, thus avoiding a narrow descriptive approach. The Handbook includes a section on theoretical approaches that analyze Latin America’s place in the international political and economic system and its foreign policy making. Other sections focus on the main countries, actors, and issues in Latin America’s international relations. In so doing, the book sheds light on the complexity of the international relations of selected countries, and on their efforts to act multilaterally. The Routledge Handbook of Latin America in the World is a must-have reference for academics, researchers, and students in the fields of Latin American politics, international relations, and area specialists of all regions of the world.

Synopsis Political Culture and Foreign Policy in Latin America by : Roland H. Ebel
This book explores the impact of Latin America's political culture on the international politics of the region. It offers a general account of traditional Iberian political culture while examining how relations among states in the hemisphere -- where the United States has been the central actor -- have evolved over time. The authors assess the degree of consistency between domestic and international political behavior. The assessments are supported by case studies.

Synopsis Asia and Latin America by : Jörn Dosch
Until the late 1980s, Japan was the only country in Asia with notable political and economic relations. Since then, however, several Asian nations have perceived growing links with the Latin American region as a means of diversifying their political and particularly economic relations while many Latin American decision-makers have increasingly recognised the strategic importance of East Asia in their foreign policy and foreign economic policy designs. This book analyses the economic, political and socio-cultural relations between Asia and Latin America and examines their growing importance in international relations. In the first part of the book the contributors look at the policies, interests and strategies of individual Asian and Latin American states, while the second part delves into the analysis of multilateral institution-building in Asia-Latin America relations,. As such, Asia and Latin America will be of interest to undergraduate and postgraduate scholars of comparative politics, international relations, Asian politics and Latin American politics.
