Synopsis CodeNotes for J2EE by : Gregory Brill
CodeNotes provides the most succinct, accurate, and speedy way for a developer to ramp up on a new technology or language. Unlike other programming books, CodeNotes drills down to the core aspects of a technology, focusing on the key elements needed in order to understand it quickly and implement it immediately. It is a unique resource for developers, filling the gap between comprehensive manuals and pocket reference. CodeNotes for J2EE: EJB, JDBC, JSP, and Servlets introduces Java developers to the key database and web development technologies of the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition. The JDBC API, JavaServer Pages, and Servlet frameworks are covered individually with examples that show how these technologies work together to create robust, dynamic web-based applications. The book also explains how to use Enterprise JavaBeans to create large, distributed, scalable applications. This edition of CodeNotes includes: -A global overview of a technology and explanation of what problems it can be used to solve -Real-world examples -"How and Why," "Design Notes," and "Bugs and Caveats" sections that provide hints, tricks, workarounds, and tips on what should be taken advantage of or avoided -Instructions and classroom-style tutorials throughout from expert trainers and software developers Visit www.codenotes.com for updates, source code templates, access to message boards, and discussion of specific problems with CodeNotes authors and other developers. Every CodeNotes title is written and reviewed by a team of commercial software developers and technology experts. See "About the Authors" at the beginning of the book for more information.

Synopsis Security for Web Services and Service-Oriented Architectures by : Elisa Bertino
Web services technologies are advancing fast and being extensively deployed in many di?erent application environments. Web services based on the eXt- sible Markup Language (XML), the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), andrelatedstandards,anddeployedinService-OrientedArchitectures(SOAs) are the key to Web-based interoperability for applications within and across organizations. Furthermore, they are making it possible to deploy appli- tions that can be directly used by people, and thus making the Web a rich and powerful social interaction medium. The term Web 2.0 has been coined to embrace all those new collaborative applications and to indicate a new, “social” approach to generating and distributing Web content, characterized by open communication, decentralization of authority, and freedom to share and reuse. For Web services technologies to hold their promise, it is crucial that - curity of services and their interactions with users be assured. Con?dentiality, integrity, availability, anddigitalidentitymanagementareallrequired.People need to be assured that their interactions with services over the Web are kept con?dential and the privacy of their personal information is preserved. People need to be sure that information they use for looking up and selecting s- vicesiscorrectanditsintegrityisassured.Peoplewantservicestobeavailable when needed. They also require interactions to be convenient and person- ized, in addition to being private. Addressing these requirements, especially when dealing with open distributed applications, is a formidable challenge.

Synopsis Head First Servlets and JSP by : Bryan Basham
Looking to study up for the new J2EE 1.5 Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD) exam? This book will get you way up to speed on the technology you'll know it so well, in fact, that you can pass the brand new J2EE 1.5 exam. If that's what you want to do, that is. Maybe you don't care about the exam, but need to use servlets and JSPs in your next project. You're working on a deadline. You're over the legal limit for caffeine. You can't waste your time with a book that makes sense only AFTER you're an expert (or worse, one that puts you to sleep). Learn how to write servlets and JSPs, what makes a web container tick (and what ticks it off), how to use JSP's Expression Language (EL for short), and how to write deployment descriptors for your web applications. Master the c: out tag, and get a handle on exactly what's changed since the older J2EE 1.4 exam. You don't just pass the new J2EE 1.5 SCWCD exam, you'll understand this stuff and put it to work immediately. Head First Servlets and JSP doesn't just give you a bunch of facts to memorize; it drives knowledge straight into your brain. You'll interact with servlets and JSPs in ways that help you learn quickly and deeply. And when you're through with the book, you can take a brand-new mock exam, created specifically to simulate the real test-taking experience.

Synopsis Knowledge Sharing in the Integrated Enterprise by : Peter Bernus
Enterprise Architects, in their endeavor to achieve Enterprise Integration, have limited guidance on how best to use Enterprise Models and Modeling Tools to support their practice. It is widely recognized that the practice of engineering enterprises needs a number of models, but how to maintain the relation between these models with ease is still a problem. Model interoperability is an issue on multiople counts: - How to interchange models between enterprise modeling tools? - How to maintain the interdependencies between models - whether they describe the enterprise on the same level (but from different points of view), or from the same point of view (but on different levels of abstraction and granularity)? - How to maintain a coherent and evolving set of enterprise models in support onf continuous change processes? - How to use and reuse enterprise models as a knowledge resource? The answers to these questions are of great importance to anyone who is implementing ISO9001:2000 requirements, whether through using enterprise architecture practice or not - although it can be argued that a well executed architecture practice should satisfy ISO9001 without additional effort. This volume attacks the problem on three fronts: 1. Authors working in international standardisation and tool development as well as in enterprise modeling research present the latest developments in semantic integration; 2. Authors who are practitioners of, or conducting active research in, enterprise architecting methodologies give an account on the latest developments and strategic directions in architecture frameworks and methodologies; 3. Authors who use or develop information integration infrastructures present best practice and future trends of this aspect of enterprise integration. Chapters of this book include contributions to the International Conference on Enterprise Integration and Modelling Technology (ICEIMT'04), and those presented at the Design of Information Infrastructure Systems for Manufacturing (DIISM'04) Workshop. While DIISM is traditionally oriented at supporting manufacturing practice, the results have a far greater domain of applicability.
