Synopsis Isocyanide Chemistry by : V. Nenajdenko

The efficacy of isocyanide reactions in the synthesis of natural or naturallike products has resulted in a renaissance of isocyanide chemistry. Now isocyanides are widely used in different branches of organic, inorganic, coordination, combinatorial and medicinal chemistry. This invaluable reference is the only book to cover the topic in such depth, presenting all aspects of synthetic isonitrile chemistry. The highly experienced and internationally renowned editor has brought together an equally distinguished team of authors who cover multicomponent reactions, isonitriles in total synthesis, isonitriles in polymer chemistry and much more.

Synopsis Advancements in Isocyanide Based Multicomponent Reactions by : Jerry Calhoun Isaacson

Isocyanide based multicomponent reactions, including the Ugi four-component and Passerini three-component reactions, offer chemists a powerful tool for quickly constructing complex molecules. A particular form of the Ugi reaction, in which two of the four reacting components are introduced into a single molecule, is useful for synthesizing cyclic products. Using a newly developed convertible isocyanide, known as indole isocyanide, in the Ugi reaction allowed for the mild synthesis of various pyroglutamic acids. This effort led first to a racemic total synthesis of the natural product dysibetaine. A project to achieve the stereoselective synthesis of the same natural product led to the discovery of a unique Ugi reaction. Usually a carboxylic acid is one of the four reacting components in this reaction, however in this unusual case an ester acts as the carboxylic acid component. In addition to the natural product syntheses, a detailed explanation of the scope and mechanism of the new convertible indole isocyanide is presented. Finally, we reveal a new stereoselective, Brønsted-acid catalyzed Passerini-type reaction.

Synopsis Isonitrile Chemistry by : Ivar Ugi

Organic Chemistry, Volume 20: Isonitrile Chemistry discusses the fundamental aspects of the chemistry of isonitriles. This book provides an introduction to as well as a thorough coverage of isonitrile chemistry. Organized into 10 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the general properties and structure of isonitriles. This text then examines the quantitative study of the kinetics of isonitrile rearrangement as well as the principal resonance structure of the isonitrile molecule. Other chapters consider the experimental and theoretical findings on the fall-off behavior of the unimolecular rate constants of different isonitriles with pressure. This book discusses as well the behavior of isonitriles toward a center of low electron density, which is particularly manifested in the reactivity of alkyl and aryl isonitriles toward diborane and alkyl or arylboranes. The final chapter deals with the inorganic coordination chemistry of isonitriles. This book is a valuable resource for organic chemists.

Synopsis Multi-component Reactions in Molecular Diversity by : Jean-Philippe Goddard

While very useful for studying syntheses of molecular diversity, multi-component reactions also offer rapid access to a variety of complex molecules that are relevant for biological applications. Multi-component Reactions in Molecular Diversity analyzes these reactions, whether they are realized by organometallic, ionic or even radical processes. It highlights popular methods based on monotype reactions (cascade, tandem, domino) and their efficiency and academic industrial domain are illustrated. This book also investigates the most efficient ways to prepare complex molecules. Multi-component reactions are in tune with the concepts of atom and steps economy, which are of prior importance in all the reported processes ? from the laboratory to the pilot scale. The essential criteria for green chemistry are also examined in the book in detail.
