Synopsis Islamic Beliefs and Practices, Definitive Responses to 40 Salafi Objections by : Reza Mohammadi
Islamic Beliefs and Practices answers some of the most common yet unfounded accusations that are levelled by Salafis against the beliefs and practices of Sunnis and Shi'a alike, such as tawassul and shif?'a. The answers to these common accusations are comprehensively and succinctly tackled using both rational and scriptural proofs in a simple and coherent manner, leaving no room for any counter-response.Islamic Beliefs and Practices will enhance the reader's understanding of many verses of the Holy Quran and familiarize the reader with many important prophetic hadith reports that are the foundation of the Sunni and Shi'a common creedal heritage. This book came about because of the endless questions posed by people afflicted with the Salafist mindset to Sunni and Shi'a pilgrims to the Baq? Cemetery in Medina. As such, it is an excellent resource for Sunni and Shi'a Muslims of all ages in their efforts at understanding the rational and scriptural bases of their common beliefs and practices.

Synopsis Civil Democratic Islam by : Cheryl Benard
In the face of Islam's own internal struggles, it is not easy to see who we should support and how. This report provides detailed descriptions of subgroups, their stands on various issues, and what those stands may mean for the West. Since the outcomes can matter greatly to international community, that community might wish to influence them by providing support to appropriate actors. The author recommends a mixed approach of providing specific types of support to those who can influence the outcomes in desirable ways.

Synopsis Islam and the Trajectory of Globalization by : Louay M. Safi
The book examines the growing tension between social movements that embrace egalitarian and inclusivist views of national and global politics, most notably classical liberalism, and those that advance social hierarchy and national exclusivism, such as neoliberalism, neoconservatism, and national populism. In exploring issues relating to tensions and conflicts around globalization, the book identifies historical patterns of convergence and divergence rooted in the monotheistic traditions, beginning with the ancient Israelites that dominated the Near East during the Axial age, through Islamic civilization, and finally by considering the idealism-realism tensions in modern times. One thing remained constant throughout the various historical stages that preceded our current moment of global convergence: a recurring tension between transcendental idealism and various forms of realism. Transcendental idealism, which prioritize egalitarian and universal values, pushed periodically against the forces of realism that privilege established law and power structure. Equipped with the idealism-realism framework, the book examines the consequences of European realism that justified the imperialistic venture into Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America in the name of liberation and liberalization. The ill-conceived strategy has, ironically, engendered the very dysfunctional societies that produce the waves of immigrants in constant motion from the South to the North, simultaneously as it fostered the social hierarchy that transfer external tensions into identity politics within the countries of the North. The book focuses particularly on the role played historically by Islamic rationalism in translating the monotheistic egalitarian outlook into the institutions of religious pluralism, legislative and legal autonomy, and scientific enterprise at the foundation of modern society. It concludes by shedding light on the significance of the Muslim presence in Western cultures as humanity draws slowly but consistently towards what we may come to recognize as the Global Age. Synopsis Common Words in Muslim-Christian Dialogue by : Vebjørn Horsfjord
In Common Words in Muslim-Christian Dialogue Vebjørn L. Horsfjord offers an analysis of texts from an international dialogue process between Christian and Muslim leaders. Through detailed engagement with the Muslim dialogue letter A Common Word between Us and You (2007) and a large number of Christian responses to it, the study analyses the dialogue process in the wake of the Muslim initiative and shows how the various texts gain meaning through their interaction. The author uses tools from critical discourse analysis and speech act analysis and claims that the Islamic dialogue initiative became more important as an invitation to Muslim-Christian dialogue than as theological reflection. He shows how Christian leaders systematically chose to steer the dialogue process towards practical questions about peaceful coexistence and away from theological issues.
