Synopsis Measurement of Geometric Tolerances in Manufacturing by : James D. Meadows

This insightful reference demonstrates a system of measurement, inspection, gaging, geometric tolerancing, and fixturing of products in full compliance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved standards. Providing thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of complex principles, Measurement of Geometric Tolerances in Manufacturing shows how to save time and money by anticipating potential problems in functionality, part manufacture, and measurement. The author explains how to design high-quality, low-cost products that are easy to produce and measure; plan a detailed process of data collection during the design phase and collect variables and attribute inspection data; reduce revisions, increase production line efficiency, and enhance product reliability; increase tolerances without adversely affecting function; and move quickly from design concept to part production by bridging communication barriers between job disciplines.

Synopsis Unit Manufacturing Processes by : National Research Council

Manufacturing, reduced to its simplest form, involves the sequencing of product forms through a number of different processes. Each individual step, known as an unit manufacturing process, can be viewed as the fundamental building block of a nation's manufacturing capability. A committee of the National Research Council has prepared a report to help define national priorities for research in unit processes. It contains an organizing framework for unit process families, criteria for determining the criticality of a process or manufacturing technology, examples of research opportunities, and a prioritized list of enabling technologies that can lead to the manufacture of products of superior quality at competitive costs. The study was performed under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation and the Defense Department's Manufacturing Technology Program.

Synopsis Introduction to Metrology Applications in IC Manufacturing by : Bo Su

Metrology has grown significantly, especially in semiconductor manufacturing, and such growth necessitates increased expertise. Until now, this field has never had book written from the perspective of an engineer in a modern IC manufacturing and development environment. The topics in this Tutorial Text range from metrology at its most basic level to future predictions and challenges, including measurement methods, industrial applications, fundamentals of traditional measurement system characterization and calibration, measurement system characterization and calibration, semiconductor-specific applications, optical metrology measurement techniques, charged particle measurement techniques, x-ray and in situ metrology, hybrid metrology, and mask making. Includes example spreadsheets of measurement uncertainty analysis--specifically, precision, matching, and relative accuracy.

Synopsis Characterization, Testing, Measurement, and Metrology by : Chander Prakash

This book presents the broad aspects of measurement, performanceanalysis, and characterization for materials and devices through advanced manufacturing processes. The field of measurement and metrology as a precondition for maintaining high-quality products, devices, and systems in materials and advanced manufacturing process applications has grown substantially in recent years. The focus of this book is to present smart materials in numerous technological sectors such as automotive, bio-manufacturing, chemical, electronics, energy, and construction. Advanced materials have novel properties and therefore must be fully characterized and studied in-depth so they can be incorporated into products that will outperform existing products and resolve current problems. The book captures the emerging areas of materials science and advanced manufacturing engineering and presents recent trends in research for researchers, field engineers, and academic professionals.

Synopsis Industrial Metrology by : Graham T. Smith

The subject of this book is surface metrology, in particular two major aspects: surface texture and roundness. It has taken a long time for manufacturing engineers and designers to realise the usefulness of these features in quality of conformance and quality of design. Unfortunately this awareness has come at a time when engineers versed in the use and specification of surfaces are at a premium. Traditionally surface metrology usage has been dictated by engineers who have served long and demanding apprenticeships, usually in parallel with studies leading to technician-level qualifications. Such people understood the processes and the achievable accuracies of machine tools, thereby enabling them to match production capability with design requirements. This synergy, has been made possible by the understanding of adherence to careful metrological procedures and a detailed knowledge of surface measuring instruments and their operation, in addition to wider inspection room techniques. With the demise in the UK of polytechnics and technical colleges, this source of skilled technicians has all but dried up. The shortfall has been made up of semi skilled craftsmen, or inexperienced graduates who cannot be expected to satisfy tradition al or new technology needs. Miniaturisation, for example, has had a pro found effect. Engineering parts are now routinely being made with nanometre surface texture and fiatness. At these molecular and atomic scales, the engineer has to be a physicist.

Synopsis DeGarmo's Materials and Processes in Manufacturing by : J. T. Black

Guiding engineering and technology students for over five decades, DeGarmo's Materials and Processes in Manufacturing provides a comprehensive introduction to manufacturing materials, systems, and processes. Coverage of materials focuses on properties and behavior, favoring a practical approach over complex mathematics; analytical equations and mathematical models are only presented when they strengthen comprehension and provide clarity. Material production processes are examined in the context of practical application to promote efficient understanding of basic principles, and broad coverage of manufacturing processes illustrates the mechanisms of each while exploring their respective advantages and limitations. Aiming for both accessibility and completeness, this text offers introductory students a comprehensive guide to material behavior and selection, measurement and inspection, machining, fabrication, molding, fastening, and other important processes using plastics, ceramics, composites, and ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys. This extensive overview of the field gives students a solid foundation for advanced study in any area of engineering, manufacturing, and technology.
