Inflation favors the debtor. The biggest debtor in the world is the US government and thus it is also the biggest beneficiary of inflation. If we stop and think about it, if it affects everyone equally then why bother? The answer is, it doesn’t affect everyone equally- its purpose is obviously to help out someone while someone else gets hurt. Notwithstanding which country suffers, inflation hurts the elderly, savers and anyone on a fixed income. The good guys. To hear government wonks blabber, there is no inflation. Really? Have you checked out the price of a car, meat, housing (again!), health care, education, the legal system, a dental visit, etc. Just what is the government basing a no inflation assumption on?
