Synopsis Implementing and Integrating Product Data Management and Software Configuration Management by : Ivica Crnkovic

Because today's products rely on tightly integrated hardware and software components, system and software engineers, and project and product managers need to have an understanding of both product data management (PDM) and software configuration management (SCM). This groundbreaking book offers you that essential knowledge, pointing out the similarities and differences of these two processes, and showing you how they can be combined to ensure effective and efficient product and system development, production and maintenance.

Synopsis Software Configuration Management Handbook, Third Edition by : Alexis Leon

Software configuration management (SCM) is one of the scientific tools that is aimed to bring control to the software development process. This new resource is a complete guide to implementing, operating, and maintaining a successful SCM system for software development. Project managers, system designers, and software developers are presented with not only the basics of SCM, but also the different phases in the software development lifecycle and how SCM plays a role in each phase. The factors that should be considered and the pitfalls that should be avoided while designing the SCM system and SCM plan are also discussed. In addition, this third edition is updated to include cloud computing and on-demand systems. This book does not rely on one specific tool or standard for explaining the SCM concepts and techniques; In fact, it gives readers enough information about SCM, the mechanics of SCM, and SCM implementation, so that they can successfully implement a SCM system.

Synopsis Essential Information Systems Service Management by : Patel, Rahul K.

As organizations navigate the complexities of modern information systems management (ISM), they face many challenges. Rapid technological advancements, changing workplace structures, and mainstreaming remote work have underscored the need for clear roles, responsibilities, and methods for interaction within ISM groups and with external stakeholders. This lack of clarity can lead to inefficiencies, inconsistencies, and even breakdowns in communication, hindering the organization's ability to manage its information systems effectively. Essential Information Systems Service Management serves as a comprehensive solution to the challenges of modern ISM. It uniquely compiles critical roles, responsibilities, workflows, processes, functions, and methods for successfully managing contemporary information systems. By providing a clear roadmap, this book empowers practitioners and students to navigate the evolving professional landscape confidently and competently, ensuring they can contribute effectively to their organizations.

Synopsis e-Design by : Kuang-Hua Chang

e-Design: Computer-Aided Engineering Design, Revised First Edition is the first book to integrate a discussion of computer design tools throughout the design process. Through the use of this book, the reader will understand basic design principles and all-digital design paradigms, the CAD/CAE/CAM tools available for various design related tasks, how to put an integrated system together to conduct All-Digital Design (ADD), industrial practices in employing ADD, and tools for product development. - Comprehensive coverage of essential elements for understanding and practicing the e-Design paradigm in support of product design, including design method and process, and computer based tools and technology - Part I: Product Design Modeling discusses virtual mockup of the product created in the CAD environment, including not only solid modeling and assembly theories, but also the critical design parameterization that converts the product solid model into parametric representation, enabling the search for better design alternatives - Part II: Product Performance Evaluation focuses on applying CAE technologies and software tools to support evaluation of product performance, including structural analysis, fatigue and fracture, rigid body kinematics and dynamics, and failure probability prediction and reliability analysis - Part III: Product Manufacturing and Cost Estimating introduces CAM technology to support manufacturing simulations and process planning, sheet forming simulation, RP technology and computer numerical control (CNC) machining for fast product prototyping, as well as manufacturing cost estimate that can be incorporated into product cost calculations - Part IV: Design Theory and Methods discusses modern decision-making theory and the application of the theory to engineering design, introduces the mainstream design optimization methods for both single and multi-objectives problems through both batch and interactive design modes, and provides a brief discussion on sensitivity analysis, which is essential for designs using gradient-based approaches - Tutorial lessons and case studies are offered for readers to gain hands-on experiences in practicing e-Design paradigm using two suites of engineering software: Pro/ENGINEER-based, including Pro/MECHANICA Structure, Pro/ENGINEER Mechanism Design, and Pro/MFG; and SolidWorks-based, including SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks Motion, and CAMWorks. Synopsis Component Deployment by : Alan Dearle

This volume of Lecture Notes in Computer Science contains the proceedings of the rd 3 Working Conference on Component Deployment (CD 2005), which took place from 28 to 29, November 2005 in Grenoble, France, and co-located with Middleware 2005. CD 2005 is the third international conference in the series, the first two being held in Berlin and Edinburgh in 2002 and 2004, respectively. The proceedings of both these conferences were also published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series and may be found in volumes 2370 and 3083. Component deployment addresses the tasks that need to be performed after components have been developed and addresses questions such as: • What do we do with components after they have been built? • How do we deploy them into their execution environment? • How can we evolve them once they have been deployed? CD 2005 brought together researchers and practitioners with the goal of deve- ping a better understanding of how deployment takes place in the wider context. The Program Committee selected 15 papers (12 long papers, three short papers) out of 29 submissions. All submissions were reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee. Papers were selected based on originality, quality, soundness and relevance to the workshop.

Synopsis On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems: OTM 2009 Workshops by : Robert Meersman

Internet-based information systems, the second covering the large-scale in- gration of heterogeneous computing systems and data resources with the aim of providing a global computing space. Eachofthesefourconferencesencouragesresearcherstotreattheirrespective topics within a framework that incorporates jointly (a) theory, (b) conceptual design and development, and (c) applications, in particular case studies and industrial solutions. Following and expanding the model created in 2003, we again solicited and selected quality workshop proposals to complement the more “archival” nature of the main conferences with research results in a number of selected and more “avant-garde” areas related to the general topic of Web-based distributed c- puting. For instance, the so-called Semantic Web has given rise to several novel research areas combining linguistics, information systems technology, and ar- ?cial intelligence, such as the modeling of (legal) regulatory systems and the ubiquitous nature of their usage. We were glad to see that ten of our earlier s- cessful workshops (ADI, CAMS, EI2N, SWWS, ORM, OnToContent, MONET, SEMELS, COMBEK, IWSSA) re-appeared in 2008 with a second, third or even ?fth edition, sometimes by alliance with other newly emerging workshops, and that no fewer than three brand-new independent workshops could be selected from proposals and hosted: ISDE, ODIS and Beyond SAWSDL. Workshop - diences productively mingled with each other and with those of the main c- ferences, and there was considerable overlap in authors.

Synopsis Discovering Real Business Requirements for Software Project Success by : Robin F. Goldsmith

While a number of books on the market deal with software requirements, this is the first resource to offer you a methodology for discovering and testing the real business requirements that software products must meet in order to provide value. The book provides you with practical techniques that help prevent the main causes of requirements creep, which in turn enhances software development success and satisfaction among the organizations that apply these approaches. Complementing discovery methods, you also learn more than 21 ways to test business requirements from the perspectives of assessing suitability of form, identifying overlooked requirements, and evaluating substance and content. The powerful techniques and methods presented are applied to a real business case from a company recognized for world-class excellence. You are introduced to the innovative Problem Pyramidtm technique which helps you more reliably identify the real problem and requirements content. From an examination of key methods for gathering and understanding information about requirements, to seven guidelines for documenting and communicating requirements, while avoiding analysis paralysis, this book is a comprehensive, single source for uncovering the real business requirements for your software development projects.
