The Glenwood Community has been referred to at varying times by sundry groups as "The Quarters," as "East End," as "Shine Town," and some extremely negative designations. It has existed since the nineteen-twenties; and it has a noble history, with an incredible record of perseverance and buoyancy. Like Bay County, it has been populated by people from several areas of the country; however, the turpentine, fish, and sawmill industries as well as tourism and stevedoring initiatives impacted the growth of the population. There was an innate desire by many of these pioneers to become independent and mimic the free enterprise system so common to this country by becoming entrepreneur.
