Synopsis The Student by : Philmore Butts
The Student" relates the story of Adam Harris as he navigates some of the challenges that may be part of a certain phase of experience. You take into account an understanding of human nature, paying special attention to the process normally associated with finding, keeping, or reconciling the seeming complexities of a bond with another person. The story implicitly raises questions about a range of issues, from identity and vocation to family bonds, friendship, and courage. Being "committed" to his textbooks seemingly opens Adam to "all sorts of criticisms" at school, but he refrain from letting it "bother him." Things seem to shift a bit after he decides "an out-of-state university would be a better choice" and leaves Chicago, spending time with his aunt's family "in a Detroit suburb."He feels an "overwhelming excitement" upon arriving on campus. He starts spending some time with "Ms. Daly," but a diagnosis of pregnancy evokes a few questions for him, particularly when she decides to "keep the baby." Adam explains to his parents and his mother says that given the circumstance, the "pregnancy must be meant to be but he hesitates about the possibility of marriage. Adam has "feelings" for Lisa, yet from his perspective, the "timing" seem to be "all wrong." When he meets his son, he tells Lisa, "Nothing that I've experienced in Michigan has made me happier." While Lisa becomes "more familiar with the duties of being a full time mom," Adam is "busy. . .with his classes" and they both focus on "raising their child." As the work progresses, Adam and Lisa confront a range of experiences. They begin to feel "closer" to one another, but his remaining time at college includes seeing "various girls," some of which tend to want "more than he can offer."

Synopsis Fort Freak by : Wild Cards Trust
Soon to be a show on Hulu! Rights to develop Wild Cards for TV have been acquired by Universal Cable Productions, the team that brought you The Magicians and Mr. Robot, with the co-editor of Wild Cards, Melinda Snodgrass as executive producer. In 1946, an alien virus that rewrites human DNA was accidentally unleashed in the skies over New York City. It killed ninety percent of those it infected. Nine percent survived, mutated into tragically deformed creatures. And one percent gained superpowers. The Wild Cards shared-universe series, created and edited by New York Times #1 bestseller George R. R. Martin (called "the American Tolkien" by Time), is the tale of the history of the world since then—and of the heroes among the one percent. Now, in the latest Wild Cards mosaic novel, we get to know the hardbitten world of Manhattan's Fifth Precinct—or "Fort Freak," as cops and malefactors alike call the cop-shop where every other desk sergeant, detective, and patrol officer is more than human. Featuring original work by writers such as Cherie Priest, author of the bestselling Boneshaker; Paul Cornell, Hugo–nominated comic book and Doctor Who writer; David Anthony Durham, winner of 2009's John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer; and many others, Fort Freak is one of the strongest offerings yet in the ongoing Wild Cards project. The undead. The reanimated. Monsters that walk the earth once Hell is full. Zombies. Call them what you want. That was never supposed to become reality. It began with sniffles, coughs, and fever. Once sick, the end came soon, but so did the beginning. Just as quickly as the sick begin to fall, so does Poppy’s world. As she loses everything she holds dear, she faces her new world head-on. Accompanied by strangers, she tries to make her way to safety, soon to realize that safety no longer exists. ROTTEN takes place in the same universe as the Grace Series. Get ready to follow Poppy and Ellis as they cross paths with a few names you might recognize. While the two series will eventually merge, you do not need to read one to follow the other.

Synopsis The Hands Gang by : Rick Hughes
Conor grabbed the heavy boxing bag between his hands, squeezing it to keep it from moving. He set his feet and rammed his head into the bag so hard that you could hear it right across the weight room. He leaned back and rammed his head back into the bag, even harder than the first time. Then he did a rapid-fire series in quick succession, his head smashing into the bag with awesome power. His face went even redder, and he stopped and let go of the bag, his arms hanging by his side. He lifted his head and gasped for air. "The Irish Kiss." He gasped again. "If he's shorter than you, you aim for here." He reached over with his finger and poked the top of Looey's head. "Same height as you, you go for the nose." The same finger gave Looey a sharp rap on the bridge of his nose. Conor knew he was going to need this move and everything else he knew to win this battle. The fact that he'd become the leader of the Hands Gang pretty much by accident, to impress Stacey, the wild child, the beautiful rich girl, didn't matter now. What mattered was the Boulton Blood Crew was coming after him with everything they had. They didn't know that the Hands Gang only had three guys. They didn't need to know. All they needed to know was that they were in for the fight of their lives!
