Synopsis Applications of Fuzzy Optimization and Fuzzy Decision Making by : Vassilis C Gerogiannis
The aim of the Special Issue "Applications of Fuzzy Optimization and Fuzzy Decision Making" is to expand the applicability of fuzzy optimization and decision making for solving various types of problems in the areas of economics, business, engineering, management, operations research, etc. Any experimental research or empirical study of theoretical developments in fuzzy optimization and decision making is highly welcome. Additionally, research papers presenting solution methods and/or studying their computational complexity, and proposing new algorithms to solve fuzzy optimization and decision making problems, in an effective and efficient manner, are also welcome. We are looking forward to receive innovative approaches that apply, in practical settings, state-of-the art mathematical/algorithmic techniques from fuzzy technology, computational intelligence and soft-computing methodologies, with the aim to offer robust solutions for complex optimization and decision making problems characterized by non-probabilistic uncertainty, vagueness, ambiguity, and hesitation. Such type of papers will address the suitability, validity, and advantages of using fuzzy technologies and the enhancement of them using intelligent methods to treat real-life problems from various disciplines.

Synopsis Fuzzy Portfolio Optimization by : Yong Fang
Most of the existing portfolio selection models are based on the probability theory. Though they often deal with the uncertainty via probabilistic - proaches, we have to mention that the probabilistic approaches only partly capture the reality. Some other techniques have also been applied to handle the uncertainty of the ?nancial markets, for instance, the fuzzy set theory [Zadeh (1965)]. In reality, many events with fuzziness are characterized by probabilistic approaches, although they are not random events. The fuzzy set theory has been widely used to solve many practical problems, including ?nancial risk management. By using fuzzy mathematical approaches, quan- tative analysis, qualitative analysis, the experts’ knowledge and the investors’ subjective opinions can be better integrated into a portfolio selection model. The contents of this book mainly comprise of the authors’ research results for fuzzy portfolio selection problems in recent years. In addition, in the book, the authors will also introduce some other important progress in the ?eld of fuzzy portfolio optimization. Some fundamental issues and problems of po- folioselectionhavebeenstudiedsystematicallyandextensivelybytheauthors to apply fuzzy systems theory and optimization methods. A new framework for investment analysis is presented in this book. A series of portfolio sel- tion models are given and some of them might be more e?cient for practical applications. Some application examples are given to illustrate these models by using real data from the Chinese securities markets.

Synopsis Optimization Techniques for Problem Solving in Uncertainty by : Tilahun, Surafel Luleseged
When it comes to optimization techniques, in some cases, the available information from real models may not be enough to construct either a probability distribution or a membership function for problem solving. In such cases, there are various theories that can be used to quantify the uncertain aspects. Optimization Techniques for Problem Solving in Uncertainty is a scholarly reference resource that looks at uncertain aspects involved in different disciplines and applications. Featuring coverage on a wide range of topics including uncertain preference, fuzzy multilevel programming, and metaheuristic applications, this book is geared towards engineers, managers, researchers, and post-graduate students seeking emerging research in the field of optimization.

Synopsis Fuzzy Linear Programming: Solution Techniques and Applications by : Seyed Hadi Nasseri
This book presents the necessary and essential backgrounds of fuzzy set theory and linear programming, particularly a broad range of common Fuzzy Linear Programming (FLP) models and related, convenient solution techniques. These models and methods belong to three common classes of fuzzy linear programming, namely: (i) FLP problems in which all coefficients are fuzzy numbers, (ii) FLP problems in which the right-hand-side vectors and the decision variables are fuzzy numbers, and (iii) FLP problems in which the cost coefficients, the right-hand-side vectors and the decision variables are fuzzy numbers. The book essentially generalizes the well-known solution algorithms used in linear programming to the fuzzy environment. Accordingly, it can be used not only as a textbook, teaching material or reference book for undergraduate and graduate students in courses on applied mathematics, computer science, management science, industrial engineering, artificial intelligence, fuzzy information processes, and operations research, but can also serve as a reference book for researchers in these fields, especially those engaged in optimization and soft computing. For textbook purposes, it also includes simple and illustrative examples to help readers who are new to the field.

Synopsis Fuzzy Mathematical Models in Engineering and Management Science by : Arnold Kaufmann
This work is by two of the leading researchers in the field of fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic. It deals with the notions of fuzzy numbers with levels of perception and levels of presumption. Many new results, examples and novel applications in engineering and management science are presented. This approach makes the book interesting and easy to understand, and provides mathematical tools which readers may find useful in the study of their own problems. Of particular interest are the discussions of applications in areas employing zero-based budgeting, the Delphi method, critical path optimization, reliability modelling, filtering and transportation. The first section is devoted to the theoretical basis for these mathematical models. The second part deals with a variety of applications in engineering and management science. There are also seven appendices which contain some special mathematical operations (Minkowaski's operations) on fuzzy quantities and detailed biographical material.

Synopsis Fuzzy Sets in Management, Economics, and Marketing by : Panos M. Pardalos
The rapid changes that have taken place globally on the economic, social and business fronts characterized the 20th century. The magnitude of these changes has formed an extremely complex and unpredictable decision-making framework, which is difficult to model through traditional approaches. The main purpose of this book is to present the most recent advances in the development of innovative techniques for managing the uncertainty that prevails in the global economic and management environments. These techniques originate mainly from fuzzy sets theory. However, the book also explores the integration of fuzzy sets with other decision support and modeling disciplines, such as multicriteria decision aid, neural networks, genetic algorithms, machine learning, chaos theory, etc. The presentation of the advances in these fields and their real world applications adds a new perspective to the broad fields of management science and economics. Contents: Decision Making, Management and Marketing: Algorithms for Orderly Structuring of Financial OC ObjectsOCO (J Gil-Aluja); A Fuzzy Goal Programming Model for Evaluating a Hospital Service Performance (M Arenas et al.); A Group Decision Making Method Using Fuzzy Triangular Numbers (J L Garc a-Lapresta et al.); Developing Sorting Models Using Preference Disaggregation Analysis: An Experimental Investigation (M Doumpos & C Zopounidis); Stock Markets and Portfolio Management: The Causality Between Interest Rate, Exchange Rate and Stock Price in Emerging Markets: The Case of the Jakarta Stock Exchange (J Gupta et al.); Fuzzy Cognitive Maps in Stock Market (D Koulouriotis et al.); Neural Network vs Linear Models of Stock Returns: An Application to the UK and German Stock Market Indices (A Kanas); Corporate Finance and Banking Management: Expertons and Behaviour of Companies with Regard to the Adequacy Between Business Decisions and Objectives (A Couturier & B Fioleau); Multiple Fuzzy IRR in the Financial Decision Environment (S F Gonzilez et al.); An Automated Knowledge Generation Approach for Managing Credit Scoring Problems (M Michalopoulos et al.); and other papers. Readership: Financial managers, economists, management scientists and computer scientists."
