Synopsis The Future of the World by : Jenny Andersson
The Future of the World is devoted to the intriguing field of study which emerged after World War Two, futurism or futurology. Jenny Andersson explains how futurist scholars and researchers imagined the Cold War and post Cold War world and the tools and methods they would use to influence and change that world. Futurists were a motley crew of Cold War warriors, nuclear scientists, journalists, and peace activists. Some argued it should be a closed sphere of science defined by delimited probabilities. They were challenged by alternative notions of the future as a potentially open realm. Futurism also drew on an eclectic range of repertoires, some of which were deduced from positivist social science, mathematics, and nuclear physics, and some of which sprung from alternative forms of knowledge in science fiction, journalism, or religion. These different forms of prediction laid very different claims to how accurately futures could be known, and what kind of control could be exerted over what was yet to come. The Future of the World carefully examines these different engagements with the future, and inscribes them in the intellectual history of the post war period. Using unexplored archival collections, The Future of the World reconstructs the Cold War networks of futurologists and futurists.

Synopsis The Fabulous Future? by : Morton Schapiro
Will the future be one of economic expansion, greater tolerance, liberating inventions, and longer, happier lives? Or do we face economic stagnation, declining quality of life, and a technologically enhanced totalitarianism worse than any yet seen? The Fabulous Future? America and the World in 2040 draws its inspiration from a more optimistic time, and tome, The Fabulous Future: America in 1980, in which Fortune magazine celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary by publishing the predictions of thought leaders of its time. In the present volume, the world’s leading specialists from diverse fields project developments in their areas of expertise, from religion and the media to the environment and nanotechnology. Will we be happier, and what exactly does happiness have to do with our economic future? Where is higher education heading and how should it develop? And what is the future of prediction itself? These exciting essays provoke sharper questions, reflect unexpectedly on one another, and testify to our present anxieties about the surprising world to come.

Synopsis Future World Order by : Maha Hosain Aziz
FUTURE WORLD ORDER is a "must-read", according to both Dr Ian Bremmer (author of Us Vs Them and Founder of Eurasia Group) and Kishore Mahbubani (author of Has the West Lost It?). Dr Nouriel Roubini (NYU Professor and CEO of Roubini Macro Associates) says its author Dr Maha Hosain Aziz has "vision" and is a "global thinker to watch". In her book, NYU Professor, Blogger & Consultant Dr Maha Hosain Aziz predicts the world will be defined by a unique global legitimacy crisis in the coming years. Norms in geopolitics, politics, economics and society will continue to be challenged, yet there will be no consensus. If it is not a US-led world anymore, who's in charge of the international system? If democracy is weakening, is there a better system to replace it? If globalization is failing some, is populism the answer? If liberal values are in decline, will xenophobia dominate? Dr Aziz argues that tech has already worsened all aspects of this unique global legitimacy crisis. But she also offers hope that in the future tech can be creatively leveraged to be part of the cure. FUTURE WORLD ORDER (2019) is Professor Aziz's first book. It aims to serve as a guide for all audiences - from the silent generation to post-millennials - to make better sense of the world at this sensitive global turning point. And it encourages readers to be more activist in shaping their future. 15% of Professor Aziz's book profits are going to her late brother's memorial fund, the Abid Aziz Fund, which supports charity Peace & Sport's Syrian refugee youth project in Jordan's Za'atari camp.
